pain in URQ of abdomen
hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has experienced a pain in the upper right quadrant of their abdomen or have any ideas of what it might be?
Initially I thought it was gas, but its been almost three weeks now.. a little long f******y abdoman feels bloated and it feels like none of my clothes fit right..
I have an appointment today, but was just curious as to whether anyone as experienced this.. or know if an RNY is connected on right or left side.. I am thinking that maybe I have a problem with one of my connections..
I am 6 years postop and have never had a single problem so this is a little concerning. Thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear you are hurting. Two things come to mind #1 - gall bladder and #2 blockage. I was recently told by a Bariatric Nurse that some new statistics are starting to show up in which post op RNY patients are starting to see intestinal blockages after 2 - 3 years. Seems to be more common than not.
Do let us know what the doctor says and I'm thinking of you.
Steph, Actually anytime you have any abdominal surgery you are prone to blockages. This is because we develop adhesions ( scar tissue). Our bowels move around with peristalsis in our bellys and they can get stuck in the adhesions. This is actually what they think happened to me. It was gassy colicky type of pain. Of course it only showed that I was constipated. You know every pt that has had a ct scan and had bypass they are all showing constipation. I digress, if the bowel gets stuck in there and stays stuck it is usually a trip to surgery to release it.
Just my 2cents worth.
It is great seeing you around.

Becky, Janine, Steph and Darlene,
Thank you for your responses, concern and prayers.
I do not have my gallbladder, they took it out with my WLS. The doctor ordered a cat scan, and labs, he seems to think it might be caused by the mesh from my previous hernia repair. Hopefully the CT scan will show somethng, he is thinking I referral to to GI and/or surgery depending on tht cat scan results.
Its a pain.. no pun intended..
I was thinking maybe something with the connections..he said he felt "something" in the area.. so we will see..
again thank you all!

Hi Stacie,
Didn't respond yesterday cuz everyone thought "gallbladder" and that would have been my suggestion. But I've been thinking of you, and I hope you get a diagnosis soon, so you can fix whatever is going on. I know the waiting can be stressful. Please post when you get your results. In the meantime, I'm sending good thoughts!
