My Kaiser PCP is holding my approval for ransom!
I am getting so very frustrated. My blood sugars used to be fine until I started the Options classes and started eating better (what's up with that?). All of a sudden they were over 200 right when I was finishing and trying to get my approval. So I have doing everything trying to get them down. I am maxed out on Metformin and only got to the 190's. I was then prescribed Lantus insulin and I am hovering in the 150's and 160's following the protocol to a T. My doctor won't sign off on my case til they are under 150. WTH! It's not like they will do the procedure if my BS is out of wack. I am worried that if I don't get my approval soon, I will miss out on an early June date and I need it so I can recover before I start school again. SIGH. If anyone has any ideas of how to get them down please let me know. I am not a morning glucose dumper, since my BS was 160 at 2am also.
I was told the same thing from Kaiser and I'm just starting the Options class next week The only thing that takes my bloods down are the MediFast shakes. They are easy to get online and you can have 7 per day and you will loose fast but you cannot eat anything! They are expensive and you can shop around and get simalar shakes like, Glucerna, Ensure and some others. I don't know how long you have to prove you can get the sugars down, but this will do it. Just like everything else, it's a battle to not eat and just drink the shakes but it comes down to playing the game with Kaiser. I wish they would get a clue that we need the surgery for the very reason they are holding it back from us! Good luck, hope I helped. Terri
It might be that metformin isn't the drug for you. It didn't help my husband at all. He has taken several things, and one of the best was taking Actos along with his glipzide. Ask your doctor if there are other oral meds that you can take in combination. Ask to be sent to a endocrinologist or someone who specializes in diabetes.
Kim, we were told in the Option class that I was in that one factor of not having the surgery would be if our blood sugars are out of control. I am maxed out on glipizide, actos and metformin so I have to include insulin daily to keep my blood sugar in check. So far so good. Good luck to you hun.
