insurance covering tummy tuck?

I read somewhere here a person was waiting for insurance to approve a tummy tuck.  I had no idea that would not be considered cosmetic, and that insurance might cover it?  Anybody had any experience with this?  Fern

I have Blue cross PPO .. they will only cover a tummy tuck if it is deemed medically necessary by your doctor. Meaning that they will only cover if you can prove you are getting rashes and sores from having excess skin. So if you are getting pain and irritation they might cover it. .. The other hard part is finding a surgeon who will accept what an insurance company is willing to pay them for a tummy tuck. They usually prefer cash patients over insurance patients because they lose money when they have to accept the insurance.
