This is like a omg i love it food and as Monday and my surgery near i wonder if i will never be able to possibly eat it again.  Losing weight is the most important thing no matter what but is sushi a no no after? I eat sushi several times per week.  It is great protein and low cal.  Since surgery, I especially like sashimi since it has less carbs.  You will need to heal first, but sushi is fine, so don't worry.  I'm a little over three years out and can eat almost anything I want, though I watch my carbs because they make be hypoglycemic and hungry if I have too many.

Awesome news but are you now satisfied with the small amount you can eat?

I know it seems impossible now, but there will come a day when you will be able to go out to eat and no one who doesn't know you very well, will be able to tell you had any sort of WLS surgery.  I can eat normal amounts.  I can't eat the humongous amounts of food, I could before, but I can certainly polish off a cut roll or several pieces of sashimi and some salad.  I feel full and satisfied because I eat an adequate amount of food.  Many of us can eat quite a bit after a couple of years and then you have to rely on exercise, good eating habits, and self control.  This isn't a magic bullet, and I'm glad.  I would be very bummed if I could only eat the tiny amounts that I was resticted to at first.  I am a trained chef and love food.  So, though, I work hard to make good choices and keep up with the exercise, I enjoy my sushi and a lot of other delicious food.  Life is good!  This was one of the best decisions I've ever made.  I think you'll be very happy as well!

Yes you will someday have sushi again! Provided that your pouch tolerates the rice, but don't expect to be able to eat early on. My surgeon has us wait at least 6 weeks before having rice so needless to say the day that I was cleared to eat rice I went right out and ordered a  sushi plate that came with like 8 pieces of sushi could only eat 2 but it was the best tasting sushi I've ever had. Now days though I like to eat sashimi better because when I eat the rice I get full too fast and then hungry sooner.

When I was a recent post op, here is what happened to me.  I puked my guts up because of the rice.  So eating sushimi is good, now 15 months after surgery, I can eat about 2-3 pieces of sushi with the rice.  So it will be hard at first and then it will get much better as the months go on.  Don't be trying to eat rice or any carbs too soon, it will just slow down the WL. Good luck,  Diane

I love Sushi!   I never did before surgery but now I crave it at least once a week. I don't order sushi with rice.  I always ask the server what rolls they might have that are riceless.  Most sushi places have one or two rolls that are either wrapped in soy paper, salmon, or cucumber.  If you order it like that, it is much less filling and you will be able to eat one or two more pieces than if you did have rice, and therefore get more protien. Often times, if you ask, the sushi chef can wrap your roll in cucumber or soy paper as a special request.  I go out to many different sushi places and have yet to find one that will not accomodate me.  If you tell them you have an allergy to rice, they are usually happy to oblige.  Congrats and good luck!
