Going to have the surgery

Desiree congratulations on having surgery soon and making a committment to a healthy new lifestyle.
You know we all know how to diet and we all know that along with watching what we put in our mouths excercise is key to being successful also. This does not change prior to wls or after wls.
WLS is only a tool and not a fix all for becoming fat. Many of us functioned with the assumption that once we had wls it would be all better and never have to worry again. Think again because after wls it takes great discipline to lose and to keep it off.
Some of us gain weight back....sometimes only 10-15 and others more. I am nearly 6 years out and shortly after my 5 years mark, I went off the deep end with snacking and jerking around with my food. I gained 25 pds. I was beside myself and by Christmas took the bull by the horns and have gone on to drop the 25 + 10 more. So my tool did not fail me....it still works. I just had to have the motivation to work it.
Point is Desiree after your honeymoon phase (the 1t 6 months) you are going to have to work on working your tool. You are going to have to be compliant with your surgeons protocal, and have the desire to wanting to be healthy and stay healthy. This will require saying NO when you have cravings and saying yes to being motivated and wanting to move your body.
I am not trying to be a hard butt to you, but anything you can cut down on prior to surgery will one be a great asset to you and two to the surgeon because it will help reduce the fat around your liver too which makes it easier for the doctor when he operates.
WLS takes work Desiree and it takes committment. As far as what you can do now, work on cutting your carbs down. Carbs are evil and will be even more evil after wls. You will feel better and feel better because you will get a grip on the carb monster!
Stick around and keep posting...like Lu said we are here for you and we all want to see you super successful!

Hi, Desiree...nice to "meet" you!
You can read a lot about my experiences on my profile page. Just click my picture, and read my blog. I don't blog as much as others do, and I would highly recommend reading Monica P's blog, as she is in the first year of her post-op life, and she blogs regularly and honestly.
I live in Long Beach...don't know where you live, but there are gatherings and good people to meet all over the state.
Best wishes, and, if I can answer anything specifically for you (I am almost three years post-op) feel free to ask away!
