ot: my neuro appt

Well, my worst fears came true....  the neuro surgeon does not think that i should have surgery. In fact his exact words were "you would be STUPID to have surgery".   Now, the minute he walked into the room, he had that God complex...you know the one- where his **** don't stink.  He took me over to the light box where my films were hanging up and said that it was a normal scan.  Uh....helllooooo? um, NO it is not. I have degenerative discs with such narrowing spaces that even someone who isnt a doctor could see that. I asked him 'well, if surgery isn't an option, then what am I supposed to do about the numbness and tingling down to my toes and the bladder urgency?" he said that was NORMAL.  WTF?!?!?? Normal to walk around in pain all the time, have numbness/tingling and feeling like you might pee yourself? Sorry, I dont think so.   I drove an hour and 45 minutes for him to tell me this in 10 minutes.  As soon as he said that he wouldn't help me- I was ready to go.  He told me that I would just "have to live with it".  Okay, 10+ years of pain, thanks a-hole. I got my MRI/xrays, went out to my car and cried for 10 minutes.  Then, drove down the road and pulled over and cried for another 10 minutes.   Mike happened to call me when I was on the road home, and he couldnt believe it.  His ortho docs all told him that there are things that can be done for me (ie, a fusion) and that he now understands why neuro's and ortho's dont get along very well. So, Monday- I have an appt with my PCP and will have her put in a consult for an ORTHOsurgeon.  I know of a lot of people and have done a lot of research on people that have had fusions and it has helped them a LOT.  I will NOT lay down quietly (and painfully, btw) over this one.  If I end up seeing an ortho doc and they say the same thing...then so be it.  But, I ain't giving up yet! Thanks for letting me vent.....

My thoughts and prayers will be with you on Monday.  Hopefully you will have a consult with an Ortho surgeon real soon.  I'm sorry you are in such pain.  You are too nice to have to go through this. JudyAnne

WTF?! What an a$$hat! I am glad that you are not letting him railroad you, someone has got to have a solution for you, be it surgery or not, to help get rid of this pain!

Hugs to you my friend! While I don't completely know what you are going through my DH does. He lives in constant pain and the Neuro told him the same thing. He gave up and just deals with the pain.  Stick to your guns Vicki! I can understand if the Ortho and Neuro both say no then OK but PLEASE!!!! What you are experiencing is NOT normal. ((((VICKI)))) I am so sorry that you keep seeing jerks!  I do not understand some Doctor's need to  brush off patients concerns.  Some seem to lose sight of the fact that they are here to HELP people.  Sheesh!  Hang in there- You will find the right surgeon.

That is I do not care, your case is not really beneficial to my pocket book or time. I feel like he did to you what a doctor years ago did to me when I could barely walk...lose 50 pounds and then come back and see me. Like 50 lbs would help? I am 220 pds lighter and I have more severe back pain and nerve problems than ever

So my point is Miss Vicki...you take that rage you are feeling for the super dick doc and push on until you find a competent and compassionat doctor who will heal you instead of trying to make you feel less than a person.

And for the record...that SOB has some huge Karma kick back coming his way....no deed ever goes unpunished girl!

Vicki, I am so sorry for all you are going through..........That totally sucks and it is so frustrating!  All you want is to feel better!!!  I know how that is...  Keep the faith and do not give up.  You will find some one to help you.  My sister has had 3 back surgeries and she really went through it but you know what?  She is finally doing well except she still gets a bit of the nerve pain.  But she is up walking & doing things she hasn't done in years. I have back problems as well and she told me do not wait until the nerves get so damaged where it is almost unrepairable.  she told me about how she would just be standing in front of the bathroom mirror putting on makeup and  pee her pants.  Not even knowing that she had to go until it was too late.  I really symphasize with you and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
