I will trying for a baby next month I have ??????'s
Next month I will be 18 months out. I will be trying for a baby. I have questions about vitamins. I know how very inportant folic acid is to your and the unborns neurolocical system, should I take 2 a day instead of one? and with the prenatals do I take three a day like I take my daily vitamins? The reason I take 3 daily vitamins still is because I am low on iron and my reservces are also dangerously low. I know for the most part at this far out most people only have to take one a day now. So how does it work for pregnancy???????
You will probably want to talk to your OB, surgeon and NUT about these specific questions, but there is a great pregnancy forum on OH. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/postop_pregnancy/ Congrats and good luck!

Thank you everyoen for you replys. I went on the pregnancy site and was able to get some advise from woman who has been and are pregnant......I will diffently consult my bariactric doctor about this, it is a little more intence than I had even thought it would be. I want to be safe and have a healthy pregnancy and baby. Thank you all once gain.
You may want to ask your WLS Surgeon if they have an OB who they are familiar with in the area. Otherwise you should really think about being seen by a Perinatologist: a specialist who cares for high risk pregnancies which you are. The bottom line is that most OB's, including nurses know little about the potential complications of pregnancy. Disasters occur because no one considers the possibility that the pain you have may not be benign but may be wls related...like an internal hernia. Also not only is it important that you take your vitamins but also that you get more protein and have your labs followed closely. Research shows that your vitamin deficiencies may show up in your newborn baby so it is important that your pediatrician also is aware of your history. Since you aren't pregnant yet make an apointment with your OB or the Perinatologist and get preconception counseling so that you can get a head start on a healthy pregnancy.
Another thought for you to consider: recently Dr. Jacques ND from Bariatric Advantage shared that she is finding across the country that after plastic/reconstructive surgery surgeons are finding that patients are developing significant vitamin and mineral deficiencies because of decreased stores...related to the stress on the body from surgery and recovery and the body utilizing the stores. Because pregnancy is also a significant stressor on the body and you already have vitamin issues...you may want to discuss it with your surgeon and OB.
Good Luck...
