But I suppose I really didnt.  I dunno.  *sigh*

My doctor has me on a protein only eating plan, till 75% of my excess weight has been lost.  Meats, eggs, cheeses, no veggies, no salads .  The no veggies/salads is the worst thing, I have been feeling like I would kill someone for a salad or a pile of veggies.  So a couple of weeks ago, I talked to the Nurse Coordinator Kimberly, she said I could have a bit of cucumber, especially after I asked about it, told her all the nutrition info in a cucumber (lol), and she said that anyone that took the time to research so thoroughly really showed they were working hard and taking it seriously.  Which I do, I track every single thing that goes in my mouth every day in fitday PC.   So, we had fresh artichokes my parents went up and got in Salinas, she said I could have some artichoke since it was soft, and takes a long time to eat for not a lot of volume.  I have been eating about half a cucumber once a week, it seems to take care of the veggie craving, and is delicious to eat something green and fresh.  But tonight....oh boy.  I had my late lunch earlier, lots of protein in some meatballs I made, was all good.  But I got the worst craving for cucumber and I ate the ENTIRE cucumber with a bit of rice vinegar and garlic on it.  I suppose there are worse things I could have eaten, but still, im kicking myself for doing it.  I am not sure I can do nothing but protein for probably the next 9-12 months with no veggies, but I need to keep them under control, even with basically hardly any calorie veggies/no guilt veggie options.  Help me before I go back for more cucumber!

I also had Dr. Krahn and stuck to all protein for the first 4 months. At month 5 I incorporated veggies into my diet. I am sure there are some Krahn's patients who would tell you different, but I started eating all kinds of veggies at month 5. I actually moved right after surgery and the surgeon here really promotes veggies as part of the diet and questioned Dr. Krahn's philosophy and when I told him (the other surgeon) he just shook his head staring out of his office window and responded by saying "interesting." I am not saying Dr. Krahn is wrong at all and by no means should you not not follow your doctor's protocol. Just don't beat yourself up for veggies. They are good for you! Also, I beleive Dr. Krahn wants you to fill up with protein instead of veggies to make sure you are getting enough protein like we all should be doing our first year. Rule of thumb- protein first veggies last. That is the new protocol I am following. I eat a lot broccoli and LOVE IT- even if it's just a few bites. You will learn as time goes on what is best for you.  Please don't take the reply as me telling you to go off of Krahn's protocol I am just saying I am a Krahn patient and at month 5 I incorporated veggies into my diet and I feel I have done great and feel very healthy.  Best of luck to you and again, don't beat yourself up over veggies. At least it wasn't ice cream, cake, or other poison. Hugs, Jaime

Don't sweat it kiddo. I'm a Krahn Kid as well and though I wasn't eating veggies regularly at two months out I was at about 4 months. At that point I was about at the 75% WL Krahn recommends. But in your case I don't think a cucumber or artichoke is going to slow down the WL and is probably good for you if you are craving it. But do limit it as much as you can and follow the protocol as much as possible and you will be successful with your WL journey. Do stay away from starchy veggies and all carbs in breads, rice and such. Remember the protien is SO very important to maintain muscle, especially heart muscle, in the rapid weight loss phase of your WLS journey. Get those 80 - 100 grams in every day and have the veggies when you crave them. And don't forget the vitamins and water either!

Did better today, had all my protein first, then splurged on one whole spear of asparagus...yeah, I know, I love to live dangerously.  I think at my appointment on Tuesday with Dr. Krahn, I wont tell him till I am scurrying out the door out of range of him yelling at me Easter - no chocolate cravings, I have no problem leaving the carbs and crap alone because to think of eating that stuff makes me nauseous....so I shall wear my spear of asparagus badge of shame proudly heh Steve, when is the next IE meeting?  I attend the one at Parkview, but am thinking it might be cool to attend both.

Michelle, You are doing so good!  There are far worse things you could crave!  I would just stay aware from the veggies that hold any sugars.  You are doing great girl!  Be proud of yourself! Blessings!  Jeni
