Has your HMO covered your lapband?

I know many HMO's cover gastric bypass if you meet the specifications, but heard that they usually do not cover lap band. If your HMO covered yours can you please share your story on how you got the process going, etc. I already saw my primary care physician and requested a referral for wls, but for now I am seeing a nutritionist. After 6 months if this doesn't work I will probably be able to get to the next step. I would rather have lap band, but had a friend who was able to go directly to the surgeon (different type of insurance) and got the ball rolling much quicker. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank You so much Sarah

Hi Sarrah!,   was wondering where you went,  I applied for weight loss surgery and when i got the forms back with approval both options were on my letter of approval. I was wondering if that was odd, but since i seen that gastric was on there i just thought oh well. Brenda

Thank you for responding. My Dr. sent me to a nutritionist for now, but I also have an opportunity to attend an informational meeting in San Bernardino next week. I was considering not going if HMO's never cover the lap band, but am learning differently so I think it is definitely worth my time. Even if I can't get it covered I am sure this is the path for me.
