OK...once again...I will say that our NUT here on base really isn't very helpful...that being said...I need help!  I have been having very slow weightloss this week.  I have started tracking my food and today...at 5:45pm I am only at 150 calories!!!  PLEASE...at 4 weeks out (on Tuesday) how many calories and such am I suppose to be getting in.  I know I am sabotaging my weight loss by not getting enough food in.  I asked my doc and he said to listen to my body.  I can't hear it!!!   HELP! 150  calories.... does that include protein drinks??? I know it's hard to get  in food and liquids... sometimes even just liquids but even if you don't get in anything else remember that you need 70 - 100 grams of liquid protein a day. And yes, if your body isn't getting enough fuel it goes into starvation mode and stores EVERYTHING you put in it.  I suggest you call your surgeon's office and ask him this question. Btw, most PCP don't know anything about follow up care for us. Lisa

Hey Cheri.....

My doc kept telling me that same thing. Listen to your body. I finely asked him " What the hell does that mean"????

He told me, it might take your a few weeks to learn the NEW way your body is talking, but you will. And he was right. Work hard to get that protein in. And your water. I know its hard, but try hard.

I started hearing when my body needed water, and when it need protein. It takes time, but it will come.

I would like to think that you aren't weighing yourself every day...but, I remember those first months post op, I was doing it every morning and night!  With that said (and I know it is SO hard)...PLEASE try not to get so focused on the day to day weight loss. You have been altered so that you WILL lose weight...you may have a week or two that nothing happens and then BAM- before you know it...you have gone down like 3 sizes!!  So, (like I said- I KNOW IT IS HARD) but...you can't measure your weightloss by a week to week basis.  You ARE losing.  Even if the numbers dont reflect that, the measurements will.   I think your Doctor is right- listen to your body.  I know that is all seems so foreign right now- but, it takes time and PATIENCE. You are going to be in Hope's closet in no time! hugs! Vicki

Hi, Cheri... I used Fitday.com to track my food intake for about the first year and highly recommend it... I found that I was eating around 500 calories most days... including my protein drinks...and lots of FF cottage cheese... But, at the beginning, I always figured that my body was sort of "feeding on itself" .... all that fat that I had stored up became its primary food/energy source for the "honeymoon period"... resulting in the weight loss... I dunno...that's just the way that I looked at it... best wishes.... Lori

Hi Cheri, Personally, I have never counted calories.  But I do know that 150 calories a day is WAY too low.  If your Dr is not giving you much feedback, I'd say, shoot for around 500 calories.  See how that does ... 500 is still very low. Brian

I know exactly how you feel!  I'm still having the same conflicting feelings.  My doctor told me to listen to my body as well...and I'm like okay what is my body saying?!?!?! I had my surgey dec 18, 2007 and still don't know what it's telling me!

Good Luck and know you're not alone!  Angel
