Is there such a thing as a time limit in which you must have surgery done?  Is going to wls seminar,  seeing dietician, being weighed and watching film,  and filling out paper work, and having  two sleep studies considered not having done anything, towards preparing for surgery?  If I am wrong can somebody let me know.  Seminar was in July, saw dietician in late August, had first sleep study done around September, second one done in February 2008.  Called Drs. office to update what is happening with me and was told they no longer take Medi-Cal, that they stopped taking it in August and that I had not done anything for getting surgery.  I was dumbfounded and  at a loss for words I didn't say anything.   I am so depressed and upset  I have a terrible knot in my stomach that wont go away.  I have seen members that went through same doctor with Medi-Cal having surgery in February.  Should I call Drs. and plead my case or let it go?  One thing I don't understand is if there was a time limit, and if he was no longer going to be taking that insurance why didn't they at least inform me, and why did they have me see dietician, and do other things??I'm just sick over this, I feel like I lost the golden ticket.  Oh and I can't find any Drs. that will take Medi-cal.

Wow I am really at a loss for words on this one. I can only imagine how you feel. I am wondering if they have new staff there and are not realizing that you have been seen by him and are going through all the hoops to get your surgery done and perhaps that he would still do your surgery since you were a patient in the process. I think it would be worth a shot to call back there tomorrow and have a list of questions. I can understand how you would not say anything when you called because you were so stunned by the information, but call back....it is worth a shot and I know others have had surgery on MediCal...I think Liz R has posted to that effect. I am really sorry this is happening to you and hope that this was just a bad mistake on your doctors office staff!

First off I am sure that it is not a time line but the fact that the Dr let the contract go with Medi-cal.  This probably due to the reimbursement issues.  When did you contact the Dr office as you were going thru this process.  The other thing is that more than likely the Dr office never got any of your test results.  Your test results should be valid.  In terms of the sleep stufy. If they say that they are no longer contracted with Medi cal then they are no longer contracted with Medical.  I do not know where you live as you do not say.  OH recently had a list of Dr that take medical.  Contact member services and see if they have that list. You need to become proactive in your care. It should be your responsibility to make sure that your diagnostic testing results get to the dr office.  You should also always get a copy and keep it for yourself. You need to keep a folder with this with you and take it all back and forth with you to your surgeons appointments.  THis is just in case something is missing in the file that they have it during your visit.  So it boils down to the fact you need to take a deep breath and contact OH and see if they have a list that they were working on.  If there is a dr in your area or one you want to go to then contact them go to their seminar if you need to.  Do not tell them I have been to a seminar already. It is not their seminar.  They want you at their seminar. So that is how you should proceed. Liz
