I got to wondering,, can a person who has had WLS get a leak 2 years after surgery? Marie

Obviously anything is possible. Have you contacted your doctor to ask about checking? A friend of mine had her surger 6 years ago and had a staple line disruption. Is there something that makes you ask? Lisa

Yeah, i have had fever on and off going on 3 weeks, been to the doctor, he says its the flu,, on meds, etc etc, but i got to thinking tonight, what if we (docs, myself) are all looking at the wrong thing here and its something to do with my bypass surgery... i have another appointment in the morning so thats the first thing im bringing up, plus, calling my surgeon to get their opinion as well. Im also wonder what other signs and symtoms go along with having leaks,, i read somewhere a long time ago about the fever, fever is usually a sign of your body fighting off infection,, The strange thing is this does not feel like the flu,, something is different,, like right now,, im sitting her and feel fine,, but my temp is a tad over 99. I usually run low too, around 97.8. For some reason, Leakage popped into my head! Opinions very welcome.

For me, I haven't truly had the flu ( vomitting and the all bit) since before my WLS almost 2 years ago.... that is  until yesterday. It hit me hard and fast and passed almost as quickly. I too have had problems getting past the fever recurring for months now though. Definately call your surgeon with this question because unless you are VERY luck most primary care providers don't have a clue about us post op patients. I hope you feel better soon. Lisa

Actually, I was being generous ...   Had you had a lea****reated for any length of time, I don't think you would have been around to make this post. Glad that you are, though!

Clinically, a temperature of 99, or, slightly above isn't even significant. In the HIGHLY UNLIKELY event you had a leak at this late stage, and now for some weeks, you’d would have had a fulminating peritonitis by now, likely become septic and would have been in extremis fairly early on. Good you are checking with your doctor, but frankly a leak isn't likely what is at issue here. Rockne

Very good and interesting question.....Please post as to what you find out. I'm interested to know what your doctor tells you....I see my surgeon in April for my 2 year follow up.  I'll be asking him this question.
