OT: art project part deux
Optimists are right. So are pessimists. It's up to you to choose which you will be.~~Harvey Mackay
I chose all of these images because I think they represent many aspects of my life. As a (forced) single mother of 3- my husband is currently serving a year in Afghanistan- the images represent my strength and determination in trying to hold things together in the house, kids, and my schooling.
I also took back my life two and half years ago by having weight loss surgery. I weighed in at 230 pounds and was a bystander to my children’s life. The image of the heavy lady being pointed at and talked about by the people in the air balloon is very representational of how people think of obese women. Unfortunately, there is much stigma attached to the “perfect body” and anyone that does not meet what societies “ideals” are, will be shunned.
Although, I am currently going through some other medical issues, I feel that my life is great- despite the cards that I have been dealt at the moment.
My husband and family come first and foremost in all that I do. By going back to school at a later age, I am working towards being able to provide the best for them when I get my degree. When I first started back to school, I was very unsure of myself and my abilities to handle doing any kind of schoolwork. As I have now gone through 3 semesters of college courses, I no longer doubt my abilities. I am a smart woman and I am enjoying the learning process all over again.
The image in the middle of my project of the woman in the ****pit of a plane with a faucet as her “controls” seems to me to represent my role as a mother. I am in control of all that goes on in the house and I found humor in the fact that her control is a faucet. This represents the domestic side of me.
The image of the two birds incorporated with the word “love” and the watch represent my waiting for my husband to return home. Rosie the Riveter is an iconic piece that was first made famous during WWII that represents how women back on the “home front” managed to find the strength in themselves while their husbands were away.
