Everyday since my surgery I get sick after I eat.  No vomiting, just stomach cramps, nausea, sweating, and chills.  It doesn't matter what I eat, salad, chicken, veggies, beef, soup......everything makes me ill.  I feel like there is a ton of air in my pouch.  It rumbles and grumbles and I get little burps.  I am down to eating once a day cuz I just cannot handle the sickness any more.  I feel better if I don't eat anything.  Please help me and give me some ideas of what I can do to make this journey a happy one....everyday I wonder why did I do this..    I love the weightloss, but I am having a hard time coping with the problem.    xoxo Kris

Kris, You are 3 1/2 months post op and get sick whenever you eat anything? You should be talking to your surgeon! It is so not healthy to only be eating one meal a day. There has to be a reason why you cannot tollerate food...PLEASE call your surgeon and get in and see him!  I hope you figure out why soon!

BIG Hugs,
Lisa

Good! I am so glad you are going to call. I can just imagine how awful it would be to be sick after eating every darn day! That has to take a toll on you! Keep us posted with what they say!

BIG Hugs,
Lisa

Kris, I'm so sorry you've been so sick!  That is awful!  You must be miserable!  I had just a few days of that when I was taking my vitamins too close to bedtime, and it was agony! I agree with Lisa, you really need to call your surgeon!  I haven't had an episode of "dumping" yet, but that's what it sounds like to me.  Aren't those the symptoms, the cramps, nausea, sweating, chills, etc? I had a friend that had a very similar experience, and eventually it subsided and she is doing much better.  I'm sure that it will eventually improve, but I know it must be miserable in the meantime.  And hey, I know it's not much comfort right now, but that same friend looks better than any other post-op person I know!

Lisa gave you the best advice because for sure that is just not right that you should be feeling this way. Also like Lisa said, it is not health for you not to be eating but ony once a day. Can you get a shake or anything in you? You are going to start losing more muscle mass than you should and that is not a good thing girl! I sure hope that your sitution gets resolved soon and that you get to feeling better soon!

Sorry you're having these issues..... Yes, talk to your doctor AND surgeon....Be sure they're both communicating.  Take it slow...eat slow and go back to the basics.... In April 2007, I had major issues that may be WLS related (in profile).  Today, I still get the cramps and everything you are dealing with...it may be serious.... After CT scans and xrays, no professional was able to identify my problem.  My surgeon and PCP believe that my intestines move around (keep in mind, not all the time but it does happen when I eat.  Especially if I eat frequently) causing my intestines to "kink".....Meaning, that a small piece of it "may" be catching onto something causing a small little twisting of the intestine.... I'm not trying to scare you but you need to call your surgeon and your PCP for them to begin documenting your issue. Again, you're not too far out and it could just be something that will go away (since your body is still adusting to your new anatomy).

So, pick up the phone and call....Good luck and please tell us an update.  This exchange of information is good for you, myself, and others to continue to learn about WLS. Hang in there....I know the feeling!

I don't think I answered your question of how to deal with it..... Well, I hope this is something that will go away.... In my case, it has not gone away 100%....There are days that I feel great!  There maybe an episode (2-3 hrs) that I feel like you do.  A month or two can go by without issues. So how have I learned to cope with this?  My weight loss and ability to do so much more is well worth the discomfort.  I've learned to eat familiar foods especially when I travel....It's just not worth the risk if I'm out in OH by myself in a meeting and having this discomfort.  I take it day by day....I've learned to take it day by day. In the beginning, I thought "why did I do this RNY".....I've learned to accept it and continue to do all the great things I'm doing today.... I look at it this way.....the episode I go through is a small amount of time versus the BIGGER time I have to enjoy after wls.

Kris...that was totally NOT my experience.... unless you are eating too fast?? and not chewing enough? If you are not doing those things, then, I'd suspect something is wrong!! Get to your surgeon's office and look into this!! take care..... Lori
