way OT: today's Oprah and the "freegans"

Anyone watch today's Oprah show about the "freegans"?......average people that dig through dumpsters for furniture/reuseable stuff and grocery store garbage cans for food.

Although I was totally blown away by the amount of food....seemingly good food.....that they found, I'm wondering if I could really do that and then eat it.  I have always been fortunate enough to be able to purchase food......and these people have the means to purchase food too, but instead choose to scavenge.  Maybe I'm not "liberated" enough......

Any thoughts?  Could you do it?

I saw that long time ago, that was a repeat, just shows you it can be done.
Women are angels.

We are flexible.

My Dad was totally into "dumpster diving"!  We lived close to a Wal-Mart &  Dollar Tree shopping center, and I have to admit, he found good stuff sometimes!  But food?  I don't know about that!  Sorry, I can never get it out of my mind that it used it be in the garbage!   I, too, am grateful that I can afford to buy the things I need.  We forget how blessed we are.

I saw it too..went back and forth on how I felt...I just thought it ummm interesting that today getting food at night from the garbage cans is now fashionably acceptable... I remember the "hobo's" had dibs on that when I was a girl growing up... I hate waste...and if it can be used then that is good... could I do it.. well if I can afford not to I dont think I could.. if it was my only means to put food on my table, I am sure I would... I was talking to the cashier at my supermarket today about it, she said all their dumpsters are locked for this purpose...but that there is a large amount of food that is not sell-able that they donate to the food bank daily ..so that was good to hear.
