Day 2 and no soda!!
This isn't so bad!
Decided to use coffee to give me a bit of caffine for a few days but because i am not a huge coffee lover it isn't something i ever crave. Yesaterday i had no soda stuck with water and today so far just the 1 coffee and water.
I need to try new things...i miss that acid feeling most.
Now i know i was approved i want to do everything it takes for us to be as ready as we can!
Brenda
Brenda,
Congratulations on your approval... or should I say approvals! Have you selected a surgeon yet?
As for the soda... good for you.. giving up soda is definitely a positive thing, especially if it's the real (full of sugar) thing. However, I'm going to give you my 2-cents here (and know there are those out there that will totally disagree with me - but, it's just my opinion)... don't beat yourself up too badly if you can't totally give up soda before your surgery. And, the reason I say that is let me share my story with you. I was a huge regular Pepsi or Coke dirinker. Several on a daily basis. The one thing I was worried about being able to comply with and give up was soda. The night before my surgery... 11:45 PM... I "ceromoneously" drank my last Pepsi (a nice tall glass, lots of ice - I way I loved it!). I'll be 4-years post-op in June, and it's the one thing I've probably done the best at complying with (I wish I could do so well with other things). I have yet to have/taste a soda since my surgery, and have no desire to do so.
So, just keep in mind that things do change after surgery.
Good luck,
- Patty

Hi Brenda,
I drank soda up until the very last day. I used to LOVE diet cherry coke. That was my thing. After surgery I was able to give it up entirely. Good for you for trying to quit ahead of time. I only craved it maybe twice since surgery and I think it was the carbination I craved.
Best of luck to you and like Patty says, your tastes and likes may change after surgery so don't beat yourself up about it too much.

Well after surgery I only experienced really 2 episodes of cravings and I just swished it around in my mouth and then spit it out. Sounds silly but it took away the craving. I think I just needed to taste it in my mouth. I wouldn't advise doing this with regular soda at all because of the sugar.
Good luck you can do this...

Hi Brenda...
Congratulations on getting approved! About the soda thing...I TOTALLY agree with Patty. I too was a soda addict...diet coke was my drug. I would drink 6-8 a day and nothig else...my husband told me when we went to the seminar before surgery that I really should re-think the whole WLS thing cause I would never be able to give up my precious diet cokes. I told him that I was sooooooo very tired of being FAT and I would do it! My doctor did not require and pre op diet or restrictions prior to surgery (thank goodness), so I was drank diet coke up till the night before surgery. That was 1 year, 21 days and 17 hours ago (not that I am counting ), and I have not missed it one bit. In fact you will find after surgery...our pouchies do not like carbonation anyway...well at least mine does not. I was 7 months post op and tried a diet coke for the first time. I had it on ice and let it sit for a few minutes to get some of the fizz out and sipped slow...and let me tell ya..I drank maybe 3 oz. and it was not like I remembered...so that cured my craving. It just kinda upset my tummy.
So...just remember like the other said..you won't want it after surgery anyway...so thats good!!!
Good luck with everything!
