starting Pureed foood
This is from my doctors food plan Include the same liquids as in the liquid phase and add 6 small meals per day of about 1/2 cup size. White bread- soaked in clear broth 1 slice = 2 grams protein Mashed potatoes 1/2 cup = 3 grams protein Cream of Wheat or Rice Cereal 1/2 cup = 2 grams protein Pureed Chicken or Lean Beef 1oz= 7 grams protein Cottage Cheese (use Lactaid tablets if needed to prevent diarrhea) 1/4c =7 grams protein Scrambled Egg =7 grams protein Soft Tofu 4 oz = 7 grams protein (check food label) Pureed soft cooked vegetables, as carrots and green bean 1/4 cup =2grams protein. Avoid gas forming vegetables like brusseJ sprouts, broccoli, cabbage/sauerkraut, cauliflower, onion, radishes, cucumbers. Unsweetened applesauce or pureed soft fruit (no seeds or skins) ¼ c Avoid pineapple, oranges, grapefruit To add some variety I mixed and matched some foods like: ¼ c apple sauce and ¼ c of cottage cheese, sprinkle with cinnamon and splenda ¼ c of mashed potatoes and ¼ c of strained cream of chicken soup Add tofu and salsa to scrambled eggs Steam carrots until very soft, mash and add a little bit of butter/salt/pepper. I was never able to eat pureed meat of any kind. It was like trying to swallow sand Good luck and enjoy your pureed food! Remember, before long you will be eating almost regular again, almost. Sheryl
