What is average weight loss per week? and Fatigue?
Hi all,
I am on day 15 now had my surgery exactly two weeks ago and have lost 11 lbs. Would anyone we willing to share there average weight loss a week or what is the norm from ?lbs to ?lbs? I am sure if differs from person to person, yet I am just trying to get an idea.
Or, does anyone have a link to were I could read more about this.
Also, did anyone suffer from more than usually fatigue in the first months. It is getting better each day, yet I do poop out sooner than latter. I kept hearing how much energy I would have and an thinking that maybe that comes a few months up the line when I a healed and eating more solid foods.
As always-Thanks,
BJ
First of all, congratulations on those first 11 pounds. The weekly weight loss depends on how many calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat grams you consume daily, plus the 64+ ounces of fluid a day. And when you are allowed to exercise more, the weight will melt off.
I started off at about four or five pounds a week and then over the long haul, it averaged between seven and 10 pounds a week

I think it has a lot to do with the diet, but more importantly, the fastest weight loss is with the vertical gastrectomy -- not much of a stomach and you can look forward to four ounces of food (max) at a time, but the fat burn is fast. I lost 120 pounds in five months. What type of WLS did you have?

Eleven pounds in two weeks in awesome, BJ! Congratulations!
I think everyone's weight loss is so different, it's so hard to get an average! I lost about 18 pounds in the first two weeks, then stayed at exactly that weight for over 2 weeks! I was in tears at one point, so worried that I wasn't losing what I was supposed to, and that this wasn't going to work for me! I was desperately posting on here, trying to see what other people had lost! And often that only depressed me more! And be aware that some people will say "I'm two weeks out and I've lost 50 pounds!", but really they are including the weight they lost before surgery! Not that they shouldn't do that, it just used to freak me out!
By the time I had my one month appt., I was a couple of pounds shy of where the Dr. wanted me to be. But the PA gave me some ideas about switching up my protein sources, and I was losing again right away!
I haven't lost as fast as I've wanted to; some weeks I've lost 5 pounds, other weeks nothing! Most weeks 2-3 pounds. But I can't complain! I weigh less today than I have in YEARS, so I'm grateful!
Fatigue wasn't too bad for me, except in the morning. I would wake up every morning feeling like I had a hangover. My one week post op was at 10 in the morning, and it was everything I could do to be ready on time!
You are doing great! Congratulations!
DeAnna
Hi DeAnna,
You are an angle and helped me feel so much better. Actually I have been at 11 pounds lost for three days-Yikes! Your story made me feel better that the loosing may come and go in short waves. I am still on Stage II liquids and am having a challenge getting enough protein. Maybe when I move to Stage III with some meat proteins it will help?
I go for my follow-up from my surgery on the 11th to post-op on the 27th and my doctor is really strict. I am afraid I am not loosing enough, yet I am following all the rules (I think).
I would be very happy with 2-3 pounds a week, I am not in a race, weight loss had just become impossible for me without intervention and I need to improve my health. Reality is if I loose 2 lbs. a week for a year I will be at goal in exactly 52 weeks from now. It is ok if it is 1 year or 2 years as long as my health improves.
Total I have lost 35lbs and am lower than I have been in more than 6 years. Thanks for reminding me to by grateful.
I hope we talk again. Thanks a million times over your message got through to me.
BJ
P.S. Congrats to you too!
