Two consults done!
Had my nutrition counseling with the diatician on Tuesday and did my psych eval today. I was cleared for surgery on both. I go for my first consultation with Dr. Higa on Monday. Have been trying to set up my cardiac stress test. The cardiac office needs my primary care doc to specify what type of stress test to do then I can make the appointment. Finally gettin 'er done! By the way, what goes on at the surgery consult appointment? I have never had surgery before, just curious.
Thanks,
Kim B
Hey Kim congratulations on gettng all your ducks so to speak in order to have surgery. A really exciting time in your life really when you think about it and also a bit of anxiety goes along with it.
When I went to my surgeon for a consult, it was pretty much him explaining in detail what the procedure was and watching a film that was kind of dumb, but it was what he did at the time. It was all pretty cut and dry.
If I were you, go with a list of questions if you have them because I know for me when I am all worked up, I forget things that I wanted to ask or say and when I am done and gone...then I remember.
I wish you a lot of luck with your consult and for sure looking forward to you posting that you have a date!!!

Hi Kim,
How exciting for you!
When I went for my consultation with the surgery, they weighed me, and measured how tall I was, took my blood pressure and then I went into an office and the surgeon came in. She introduced herself. since I had chosen the Lap band she handed me a fake tummy with a lapband on it told me to touch it, look at it, get to know it because it would be inside of me for a very long time!
Then she went into detail about the surgery, risks involved, success rates, and then asked if I had any questions.
I walked out of there feeling really confident about the surgeon I chose and the procedure.
As far as your EKG/stress my surgeon wrote an "order" to my PCP and I had it done in his office. That way he knew she wanted a pre-op EKG.
I'm just waiting for the approval now, had my psych eval yesterday and that was my last thing to do!
Good-Luck to you!
Blessings!
Kim,
First off congrats on getting through all the hurdles! Your day will be here before you know it!
At my surgeon consult, he explained the surgery in detail, had me lay down and poked around my tummy, confirmed my medical history and asked some specific health questions, and then just sat down and chatted for a while, answered my questions, asked my partner if she had and questions....it was super easy and nice. Oh, and the nurse weighed me, got my height, and measured my waist and hips.

Hello. Newbee here.
Glad to see someone else here going to the same surgeons group. My diet Dr gave me Dr Higa's name but I saw Dr Boone. Just this Friday actually. I liked him.
I had sent an e-mail for a spot at a seminar and was given an appt for a video seminar and meet with the surgeon. I was feeling all prepared, having had all but my psych eval done, until another patient came in for the same video. She had all her reports with her. Oh well. I should have all my stuff faxed in by Wednesday, the date of my psych eval. Then the waiting begins I guess? I have heard my insurance is good, but I am a 'lite-weight'? so I am worried about approval.
As to the appt, pretty much what has already been said, weigh in (my dr had been getting false numbers as he never had me take off my shoes, and DARN I GREW 2"? Always thought I was 5'2"!)
I was sweating it when my height came out at 5'4" and my weight, 212 instead of the 217 I was the day before. BMI suddenly dropped! The nurse then confirmed everything on my history. Dr came in, talked to me, went over the study booklet (there's a TEST), checked my belly, and, WHEW!, told me I was a good candidate due to my co-morbidities.
So, Kim B, may be seeing you in the office sometime soon.
