SURGERY WAS CANCELLED AGAIN

I got to the hospital at 5:30 a.m. and was about to change into the wonderful hospital gown when all of a sudden... an EVIL nurse.. came up to me and told me that surgery had been cancelled AGAIN. Why you ask? Because my iron was too low. I have PCOS and have really irregular periods. I just got done about 4 days ago for from having a month and a half long period. So when I did my bloodwork yesterday, it came back as an 8.3. Now, normal is 12 and they said they won't operate if it is below 11.5. So, they said there was nothing they could do, gave me a prescription for iron pills, and told me to follow up in a week. Fun, HUH? They had me wait around for 2 hours to talk to Dr. Coates (who never actually showed up), and then my husband and I finally left. I don't mind the waiting so much, but all the work issues that come along with it are making it really frustrating. Anyway, once again, thank you all for your support and I hope to be sitting with you soon.

April, Oh no girl. I am so sorry but all of this jumping through hoops is worth it in the long run. Take your iron pills and before you know it you will be back in that lovely hospital gown. Don't get disscouraged because it all is worth it in the long run. Please keep your head up and keep us posted on your date. I hated reading this but I am glad they caught it before surgery. They just want to make sure your body is going to be able to tolerate surgery.  Keep your head up. You will be in my thoughts. Jaime

I can completely understand your frustration- my story is very similar to yours...I had a hard time understanding the concept that all things happen for a reason but one can only imagine! I hope it works out for you soon :) Sabrina
There are three ways of dealing with difference: domination, compromise and integration. By domination only one side gets what it wants; by integration we find a way by which both sides may get what they wish.........

I am so sorry my friend. I got up all early this morning to come and sit with your husband and wait for you to be done but thankfully I looked at my phone. Ugh. It is such a frustrating process. You got approved so quickly but now it is just hurry up and wait. Wait wait wait. In the end it will be for the best but my gosh how frustrating! Keep your head up and follow up in a week!!!!!!!!! April!  I CANNOT believe that!  OMG!  I told you how I asked Dr. Coates about that for myself, and he told me that he would not cancel my surgery even if my iron came back low!

I don't know what to say!  Maybe because you have PCOS (I don't know what that is) or something?  I'm so sorry, I feel like I gave you a false sense of security about the iron thing!

Unbelievable!  What are the odds?  I'm SOOOO sorry!

As hard as it is getting your surgery cancelled, I am glad they did it instead of going ahead because once you are bypassed it is so difficult to regain your iron levels because the proximal jejunum is bypassed (that is where we typically absorb the iron). So all things do happen for a reason....just do as they say and eat a bunch of food that is rich in iron too on top of the pills and I bet you will be good to go soon!
