I'm not on the island (I live in West Vanc.) but am happy to connect with you here!

I will be having a sleeve but do not have a date yet, although I have my orientation and meeting with Carla on April 27th. Since I'm in Vancouver and have been seeing Dr. Zenter for a few years already, I have been doing things somewhat out of order. I am excited for my appointments in 2 weeks - we shall see what they say as far as wait time.

Best of luck to you all and keep us posted!

Kim

Hi...The big thing with Malik is you prove you are trying...do not gain an ounce or he's pretty tough.  Read as much as you can, if possible find a WLS support group. It's a long process and a really long wait list. It took me 3.5 years to get a surgery date! Malik, Amson and another surgeon have combined their lists in Victoria. I was told upfront a 3-5 year wait list..but they keep saying they are trying to get more OR time to get the wait times down.  It was suggested to me if I could afford it to go have it done in Mexico. I'm just being honest with you so you won't get frustrated with the waiting. The not knowing is hardest! If you have a comorbidity like diabetes you may have a slight advantage, as they realize this cures diabetes right quick!  Hope that helps you...

Hi I had my orientation and first visit with Dr. Malik in the middle of March. Also, had my visit with the nutritionist.  Have had my blood work and EKG done and now am waiting.... not sure what happens next. I am hoping to have the sleeve also. I live on the mainland.

Hi everyone! I'm new here as well and glad there is a forum for BCers. I am in West Vancouver, but will be travelling to Victoria for VSG. I have my group orientation and meeting with Carla on April 27th, and as I already have Dr. Zentner's approval I am hopeful it won't be too long after that before surgery!

Best of luck Lynn and keep us posted on your progress:)

How exciting - glad to hear that you are making progress and getting nearer to surgery! I have my group orientation on April 27th and will meet with Carla that same day as I'm travelling from Vancouver. I've done all of the tests and have Dr. Zentner's approval so I'm excited to be getting closer as well.

Best of luck and keep us posted!

So today i had my orientation at the Bariatric Clinic here in Victoria. Learned a bunch of new stuff. Already knew quite a bit of what they had told us. Got the requisition for blood work and my ECG. Today made it start to feel more real. Not gonna lie iam feel more than a little nervous.

Hey. Congrats on getting the orientation date. It is very informative! I recommend bring a pen and lots of note paper. I took a bunch of notes while I was there. They will pull you all into the back room (one at a time) and take your picture, height and weight. Bring water as you will be there at least 3 hours. Longer if people keep asking questions. Check or $10 cash for the book - highly recommend getting it! All the people at Garratt are really nice. Long drive though. I left home (Mission) at 7:30am and got there at 9am.

If you have any specific questions, please ask and I will do my best to answer them.
