I think I want the RNY but until I speak with the doctor I guess I don't know for sure.

Here is a link to the current wait times: https://swt.hlth.gov.bc.ca/faces/Wooden.xhtml

The wait list is a bit of a crap shoot, tbh. WLS is only guarenteed 1 surgery per months in Victoria, but if there are budget surpluses from other departments, VIHA will reallocate that money to WLS. Once you have the all clear (have all of your pre-op testing done and have met with the nutritionist) the wait time is about 6 months. Me, from referral to surgery was 47 months.

Yes I think as long as you stick to the program and follow directions and get things done that are asked of you. Things do move along. I am sure there are other factors to like how much Bariatric surgery time is given to the hospital. I am having the gastric sleeve instead of the RNY. Dr. Malik asked me which procedure I wanted and with all the research I have done I think the gastric sleeve is better for me. I know there is a greater percentage of weight loss with the RNY but I am concerned about the dumping syndrome and the malabsorption common with RNY. So I will be having the gastric sleeve. Which procedure do you think is best suited for you?

Wow, you must be so excited! It seems like once you are in the system, things do move forward. Are you getting RNY?

Hi, I meet Dr. Zentner last August and started on the process of dedicating myself to better health. I listened to Dr. Zentners advice and followed her directions. I saw her once a month and started to loss weight. I got a call in February to attend orientation in Victoria in March. I went to the orientation and meet with Carla the following day. When I got home I went and had my blood work done, EKG and went for sleep apnea testing. Continued to see Dr. Zentner. Found out I had moderate sleep apnea, Who knew??? I also meet with Dr. Malik in March for a consultation. I went home and continued along with working on taking care of myself. I then got a call the middle of June for my surgery date which is August 12th. I will be going to Victoria on August 10th to meet with the Anthologist, blood work, chest xray, and EKG. Then surgery on August 12th. Dr. Malik is no nonsense. He told me gain weight before your surgery I will cancel your surgery....yikes!!! But he was kind, professional, and respectful.  I am excited but nervous all at the same time. I still have been seeing Dr. Zentner every month.

Had VSG surgery yesterday morning. Other than gas pain things went well. Looking forward to progressing through the food stages though...family had butter chicken and I had 1/2 a glucerna. It will be worth itin the end.
