Found this while searching, some good information. It is a PDF and you should be able to read it online without having to download to your computer.

Can you self-pay in Canada for surgery within Canada? My doctor said that because the public system covers it, that is not possible and that I'd have to go to the US or Mexico if I wanted to self-pay.

Hi - Thanks for the information; that was pretty quick! I saw my family doctor yesterday and he said that the wait in Victoria or Richmond is 2-3 years, and closer to the 3-year mark. If they've added another area, hopefully it shortens the wait for everyone.

Also found this, very interesting. I'm not sure if this Dr. Zentner is the same as the one you have been referred to - https://globalnews.ca/video/1664280/gastric-bypass-surgery-t o-treat-type-2-diabetes

My doctor put a referral into Dr zentner. Last feb. my appointment is in November. She is referring people to a surgeon in Burnaby. I am not to sure what to expect as it's not the Vitoria or Richmond program. So it didn't take to long to get in

Hello

I am planning to get WLS. I am a lightweight with multiple co morbidities.

If anyone here has any recommendations for GPs in the lower mainland, please share.

Was going to phone this AM but the Richmond surgery centre e-mail me back saying that they have my referral and now I just have to wait... 2-3 years. So won't need to call my endo.

So I contacted the Richmond office late last week, and heard from them today. Yes, indeed my doctor did send in the referral and I will be waiting 2-3 years. Sigh... Let the waiting game begin... :-)

Yes. I always phone. I know my doctor's clinic refuses to give out an email address...
