Thanks for initiating this thread.  I find it helpful, especially the waiting time of two years you told us.  I spoke with a lady in Prince George, where I live.  She said she had the gastric sleeve after waiting two years.  She got the surgery done by Dr. Malik.  She seems pleased with her experience so far.  She has lost 85 pounds since July 2015.

Hello,

I'm sorry I havent posted anything since I posted this message 10 months. I lost my way a bit and was feeling really disheartened for awhile after not hearing anything from either Dr Amson's office or the Bariatric Program at Royal Jubilee.. My referral was sent in 2 years ago in February of 2014 and then 2 days ago I finally heard from Michelle at the program and I am scheduled in for the group orientation on Feb 11th 2016 at Royal Jubilee. I am sooo excited to have this process final start! Anyway I wanted to check in with the people that responded to my post and see how your process is going....I promise to responded this time LOL

I ended up connecting with Dr. sampath's office and they will review my records before deciding on whether to bring me in for a consult.  Thanks for the suggestions.  If that doesn't work out, I'll start moving down the list.

Is there anyway that you could get a referral to Dr Nguyen or Dr Sampath at Richmond Hospital or Dr Malik in Victoria?

They sound like they would probably be the best and understand the type of surgery you have had.  Im thinking that given the nature of your issues you maybe able to get in sooner than if you were going for your initial visit.

Good luck.  Let us know how it goes.

Here's hoping you get your date soon! I haven't been as active on the board as I want to be, but hopefully that will change soon. My guess also is that there is probably alot of lurkers around.

Keep us informed!

Topic: Close to getting a date

Hello everyone,

i live in the lower mainland and spoke with dr. Malik's office today. I hope to get a surgery date for April. Feeling very excited/nervous. For those that have already been down the path, how long is the liquid pre surgery stage? Thank you!!

The forum has been quiet, hope everyone is doing well :)

Topic: 10 years post op and having complications. I need recommendations for a specialist

I have had ongoing swallowing issues and severe reflux.  My most recent scope, with a new gastroenterologist, suggested that my original surgery completely eliminated my stomach, attached the RNY at the top of my stomach instead of the usual spot, and the angle of the stoma prevents emptying from my esophagus.  She feels no surgeon will touch me, which is probably true in my community where there are no bariatric specialists.  I'm looking for a bariatric specialist who might be able to correct some of the positioning of my anatomy, to allow food to start to pass more freely through the gastroesophageal sphincter.  I don't imagine there are others who have had this experience on here, but does anyone know of a surgeon covered by MSP, that might do revisions done by other surgeons?  My surgery and post surgery panniculectomy were performed by the same surgeon (in another province), and I'm not happy with either result, so I don't want to go back to him.

Thanks.

Thank you for the well wishes and support.

I am packing up today to catch the ferry tonight. I am full of nerves and excitement. This is going to be amazing.

For anyone wondering, I found the liquid diet really easy to do. One tip if you are getting bored with the diabetic boost is to add a couple of drops of extract flavoring. Orange, coconut, or mint in chocolate. Maple or lemon in vanilla, banana in strawberry. It adds a lot of variety without adding calories or fat. It can help.

I weighed in this morning at 295. My lowest since 1999. Thus time next year, I will be at my high school weight. Hard to imagine.

I'll try to post some updates after surgery. Let everyone know what the other side is like.

Until then, take care.

Daniel
