THe pre-op is really not as bad as you'd think. What plan to you have to follow? I have heard lots of good things about surgery in Mexico. We are pretty close in date. How long after surgery do you have to stay in Mexico? All the best for a quick recovery.

Where abouts in BC? I am in Northern BC. I am half way through the liquid diet and have lost 9 lbs as of this morning. I did start a little early because I felt that since I had been eating more  for the past little while, I'd better get my butt in gear lol.  I found that I was doing that old," Well I won't be able to have this again", etc, and so I was taking in a few extra calories and, well you know what happens then......Anyway I have it under control and now I have 11 days left. I just got a call this morning about what time to be there and nothing to eat or drink after midnight so I am all set now just make it through the next week of work and away I go! Good luck, it really does go fast. I felt like it was taking forever but now when I look back, what took time was all the pre op tests and preparation and it really was not that long at all.

Cheers

Hi Cynthia,
I am having the sleeve as well. He did ask me a few times why I did not want RnY but I had decided a long time ago that the RnY was not for me and that I was going to have the sleeve. The Dietitian is great.  She is really nice and has developed a great program which they will want you to follow.  It is easy to follow and gives great advice on eating healthy and setting little goals for youself. I saw Dr Nguyen twice (Jan and April) and the dietitian twice (Feb and April) and then I got my surgery date April 26th. I will be going down to Van for my surgery June 24th. I am really excited and can't wait to be on the loser's bench.  I am half way through my liquid diet and that is going well. Not as bad as you'd think,  plus there is a little incentive at the end lol.  I still can't believe it is only 11 days away. Feel free to ask any questions you have I will try my best to answer them. All the best to you
Cheers

Preop diet helps your shrink the fat around your liver, which will help surgery go well.

My liver had a lot of fat around it at time of surgery.

I think the pre-op diet is to show the surgeon you are ready and motivated to make major changes in your life and to shrink your liver (of glycogen) before the procedure so it isn't "in the way".  I'm not sure if it is necessary for all surgeries but I need to do it to prepare for bypass.

Topic: Pre-op liquid diet
I've read a bit around the site about people going on diets pre-operatively.  I'm going to Mexico for my surgery, which is one week from today (yikes!) and I have not been instructed to go on any sort of diet before I go.  I know there is only one week left, but should I be trying to lose weight or something?  Or is it more to rest my stomach, or get in a lot of protein, or what?  Could the lack of instruction to diet pre-operatively be because I have a relatively lower BMI?

I am having a revision from band to sleeve.  I had the band done here in B.C. (in 2008) and wasn't instructed to go on any sort of a pre-op diet for that one, either.

Any other information or tips anyone has about ANY aspect of this upcoming adventure is greatly appreciated.  I've already learned so much from this site!
Thanks,
Raingal

I know exactly how you feel. The first day when I left there, before I even made it home I had phone calls from PAL, and people wanting to book consults, and it was VERY overwhelming. My uncle had the surgery done back in the late 80's and he gained weight back. My cousin had it done back in 2005, and she STILL struggles, but has kept almost all of it off. It's hard, completely and utterly overwhelming, so I know how you feel. It's nice to know that you're at the same spot as I am more or less :)
