Hi Lolote
I went ahead and had my doctor send a referal to Richmond. I think the chance of having MSP provide funding for out of country surgery is not going to happen. I would love to hear from people who have recently been successful of receiving funding. I would even like to hear from people who have tried and not succeeded in getting funds.
There is always the option of self-pay. If that interests you, there were two places in Seattle that I looked into and they had links for Canadian patients: Virginia Mason and Puget Sound Bariatric. I'm not sure how much they charge. Mexico is another option. I believe it is cheaper than the States. Good luck on your journey :)

The office in Richmond told me the wait is between 1yr and 1.5 yr... It's a very long time to wait...
Like you, I was thinking about Seattle, but not sure how to start...

Hi Christine it's Suzanne, did you go get an xray first to see if you have broken anything.
Are you looking for an orthopedic surgeon?
There is a spine clinic at Vancouver General Hospital, and they see patients there but you have to make an appt I believe through your family doctor.
Hope you are feeling better soon

No, they probably will not. You usually get everything at first consult. They may send you a letter listing what you need to do, but you can self-refer to get a jump on it. I got my letter after my first consult, but some of the program requirements that were in place when I started my journey, are a bit different, so I am not sure about the timing of the letter. You can phone Garrat Wellness Centre @ 604-238-8004, to register (there is a cost of $90) or email the nutritionist directly @ [email protected], if you want any more information, and to find out when the next class starts (Winning at Losing). You should also start reading "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies". Also, you could email the surgeons (email addresses on the website), if you have any specific questions regarding the types of surgeries, or about the preparations required.
