They don't give a specific diet to follow so your nutritionist would be helpful for that.  During the orientation I was just told to maintain good, healthy eating habits, exercise and keep a food journal.  They do put a focus on protein as after surgery it's the #1 priority to get in your body first.

Here are some of the notes I took during the orientation:

  • Keep a food and activity diary and bring to all appointments (I use MyFitnessPal)
  • Make time for at least 30 minutes of exercise daily
  • Increase your activity levels
  • Plan your meals with a focus on lean protein, veggies and fruit
  • Limit snacks to 2/day
  • Avoid fast foods and fried, fatty foods
  • Eliminate caffeinated, carbonated and sweetened beverages
  • Chew each bite of food 20 to 25 times - practice mindful eating

Thanks! That sounds pretty close to what i am doing, except for coffee. That is going to be a major adjustment for me.
I am working with my counselor on Mindful Eating. It is a lot harder than I had imagined. Have you ever read the assignment on how to eat a raisin? Very neat way of practicing it!

Thank you again! I look forward to hearing about your journey. Your next apt is soon, isn't it?

I'm a tea drinker ... I've bought the decaf tea but it's just not the same really; I also struggle with ridding myself of the carbonated bevvies.  I haven't heard of the raisin assignment, do tell!

I meet with Dr Z & Carla this Friday and then Dr Lam the following Monday :)
