I think it was close to two months before I heard from them to get an appointment.. but I then asked to be on the cancelation list and did get in sooner....

His list is getting very long.... best to get in the line as soon as possible

Can you also be on the wait list for surgery?

My referral took a week and a half to get my first consult booked, which was for 5 days later (Mar.7).  Then a marathon of many tests and appointments with 4 other specialist doctors.  I had my RNY done on October 3, and am now down by 106 pounds (54 pounds down before RNY).

VSG and RNY are definetely covered by MSP. The wait times on the island are crazy but Richmond's are still very reasonable but getting longer.

With respect, I think it depends on who you see on the island.  I was referred to Dr. Malik in December 2010 and I'm booked for RNY with him one year and 3 days after my consult with him.

I was sleeved Nov. 14/11 in Richmond with Dr. Sampath
MSP covered everything.

My wait was about 3 months until first appointment, and then 5 and a half months from first appointment until surgery.

But I know his wait list is a lot longer now.  I was very lucky to get in when I did.  But I believe its still less of a wait then the Island.

After researching gastric bypass surgery for 3 years I finally was ready to start the long road until the surgery. I came upon Dr.Nguyen/Dr.Sampath accidentally....my doctor's office hadn't even heard of them.
My first consult with Dr.Nguyen was May 10, 2011 and I waited about 3 months to get into see him. I went through many many appointments with an Internist, a Respitory specialist, a phsychiatrist and a nutritionist.  After a barrage of tests, it was discovered that I have mild sleep apnea, a deviated septum (my nose septum is crooked) and I have a very tender gag refelx (upper GI) otherwise my cholesterol and blood pressure are fabulous. The appointments are fairly spread out and the more you listen to every piece of advice, the better off you will be.

I was notified yesterday that my surgery is scheduled for April 10, 2012 so it took exactly 11 months from my first consult.

I heard when I was at an appointment that the wait time is over a year for either doctor now and Victoria is around 3-5 years (that is what they told my cousin anyways).

This long journey has been worth every appointment and test that I have been through. I am so excited to start the rest of my life and just be normal.

Good luck!
