Is WLS covered by BC Med?

I am from BC, but I live in Ontario now.  I just had an RNY done on September 22nd and it was covered under the Ontario health plan.  But this is fairly new.  I'm wondering if it is also covered in BC?  I had about a 9 month wait from the time my referral was submitted to the time of my surgery.

There are only 3 surgeons that preform the RnY in BC and they are all on the Island. Currently there is a 4-5 YEAR wait to get the surgery as funding for bariatric surgery has been cut.

Yes the sleeve and RNY are covered by MSP, the lapband is not covered by MSP.

There are three bariatric surgeons in Victoria, and one in Richmond performing bariatric surgery.

The waittime is longer now in BC because of the cutbacks to bariatric surgery.

I had my surgery in kelowna/BC and only had 3 mth initiation period. Definatly NOT a long wait..
Dr Kluftinger is the surgeon in Kelowna.

 Karen, did you have RNY?  And was it  covered under BC health care?

Can I ask what the cost involved was for this surgery?  I know you said that MSP doesn't cover it but would an extended health care cover it?

What was the recovery time?

Are you able to get it done in Kelowna?

What is the fill and un fill mean? 

How do they do these fills?

 

Sorry for all the questions but I am just getting started on researching this as an option.

I got a Realize lap band. The doc doesnt do RNY..
The band is not covered by  bc medical.
