My Appt with Dr M

Hey everyone.

I took everyone's advice and kept my appointment with Dr. M for yesterday (my appt had been changed from Sept 29 to Sep 9).

They weighed me!  They've never done that before, but Kara said they are starting to do that now, so if you haven't seen him in a while, be aware!

I waited almost an hour to see Dr. Malik, but when he came in he spent quite a bit of time with me.  He said he was very pleased with my weight loss (almost 20 pounds) but said my BMI was still too high for surgery.  I agreed, and told him that I was surprised I had lost so much weight because I was on prednisone twice during the last six months.  He asked why, and I explained.

Then he said, okay, so how did you lose so much weight under the cir****tances?  So I went over all the changes I've made in the last six months (I had al ist!) including wearing a pedometer, drinking protein drinks at least once a day (breakfast), water running in the summer, etc.  He was very complimentary of my progress.

He said that he was sure I would have the operation next year, and I said I wasn't expecting it this year (which seemed to surprise him).

He also asked what my supports were and I told him about the online ones and he was very pleased with that and he said I should get to know his patients especially.

He said that he would like to see me lose another 20 lbs at least, but that he was very impressed and pleased with my progress and attitude. Smile

All in all it was a very positive appointment for me (and for him too, I think) and I walked away proud of myself and happy that he is my doctor.

We had a rough start, but I think he is the doctor for me.  I am used to dealing with specialists (I work with them and have quite a few for my personal health) and I understand how they work/think.  So I am happy to stick with him for now!

Have a great day everyone!

 Hi Cynthia
I know your post is a few months old, but I was asked my Dr. Malik today to make contact with some of his patients.  I've been seeing him for over a year, I've had the sleep apnea test, the respiratory funtion tests, the gastroscopy....etc.  I need to lose 35 lbs and I havent budged in a year.  I've been walking an hour a day (630am) with my 3 year old in a backpack.  I've been working with a dietician and doing the fibre shakes in the morning....etc.  I CANT LOSE WEIGHT.  Hence the WLS.

What did you do to lose the weight?  I am so tired of waiting.

Thank you :)
