Hi there,
I understand about your doctor not being behind you in you WLS mine was the same way. No support.....so I went and sat in a clinic. Oh first I went to a meeting down at the coast with Pudget Sound Surgical Center. You don't need a referral and the surgery date doestn't take to long. First time I saw the Dr there was in the middle of January and if my hubby hadn't gone away for two weeks then my surgery would have been sooner. I had my sleeve done on mar 24/10 . And of course it was self pay. They are just wonderful. I believe the band is about $17,000. and the sleeve was 20,300. that includes two years of follow up and your hotel accommaditions for a couple of nights. They give you a list of test that yoed to get done at home, that was where my problem started, my Dr wouldn't give me a rec to get them done......now over to the clinic and a Dr there signed for them. You also have to get some med and back to the cllinic I went. I just had to but one prescription in the states and that was $40. All of the staff at this clinis are very happy and a joy to be around. The clinic is in Bellingham for all your appt and the surgery is done in Edmonds. They (at the clinic) can be reached 24/7 if you need help during your process. you go onthere site it will have a secn that tells where the clinics are at the coast. Thonly other cost you have is your first visit to see the Dr and that was $250.
This whole experience is made so much easier with the pleasant staff.
as able to help you.

My BMI is very, very high but all my blood tests came back normal. Cholesterol is good, blood sugar levels good blah, blah, blah.Because of this my Doctor said she cannot refer me for any wls. So I am willing to pay out of pocket. What I would like though is some prices. I've heard the one place in Vancouver is approx. $17,000.
With our dollar almost at par I was thinking of going to the States to get the procedure done.
Is anyone familiar with the costs? I'm interested in the lap band.
(I'm in Vancouver)
Thanks so much.
I had my VSG on March 31st in Mexico with Dr. Joya. It cost $10,000 US including air fare and hotel. It was an awesome place to go. If you want any further info just email me.

I picked the date which was about 6 weeks away and I was booked.

Hi there,
Sorry for the late reply, but I didn't realize there is a BC board. I live on Vancouver Island and went alone to Mexicalli to Dr. Aceves. Not one complaint, not even a little one....excellent service, clean, marble bathrooms, very pleasant doctor and staff.
I will be 2 years out from the sleeve on June 26th...you can see my weight loss on my ticker.
I would not wait.....the plusses to the surgery are too many to put yourself through the long wait times.

I just had my LB surgery in kelowna thru I Quest.
It costs more than Mexico. But I think its totally worth it.
Like so many other people, i have other health issues that make me a high risk. I didnt want to end up in mexico with a problem that would keep me their longer. i dont even want to imagine how much it would cost if i had to stay even longer. Im sure the cost would more than double the canadian costs. i dont know what the mexico patients do for the fills....and how they have support. And what about the cost for the flights to and from mexico, what do they do if they have problems afterwards?
Luckily in Kelowna I have 18 mth support program to dietican, group support, doctors , physiotherapist, trainers. and the fills are done up here.
For the people that went to mexico, Im glad it has worked for the people that have found success with it.
It is just something i would never do, I wish the canadian medical people would see the need, and want to get that money that is going to mexico (a third world country) back into canada.
Its ridiculous that more docs dont do it in canada.
Bye the way,,,i only had to wait 3 mths for my surgery in kelowna. the wait was part of the program, so we are physically okay and armed with knowledge before this life changing surgery.
I was thrilled that i didnt have to wait 3-5 yrs,,vancouver/ontario wait times. Those years are valuable to me for sure.....
I dont work for I-Quest, im just thrilled with this group and how they treat you like family. It has changed my life completely.
