Awesome!  Congrats on your surgery date!  What date did you have your consultation?  Did they give you the surgery date at the consultation, or call you with it later?

My first consult was December 7th, 2009 and they gave me a date,  unfortunately they overbooked and had to move my date farther.....was supposed to be end of February.

My next consult with all concerned with my operation will be March 1st, nice thing is you get to see everyone, surgeon, nutritionist, anaestheosiologist and physicologist, on the same date, makes it easier for us in Cda.  Then the operation March 30th.

They are busy and only do RNY's once a week I think in Dr. Changs office at VM.

When is yours?

Hey!  I just got my date today at my first appointment :)  April 1st!  I'm pretty pumped!  How has it been with MSP?  Do you get billed and then send your bill in with the form they send you, or is it done some other way?

Heyyyy you will be in the hospital with me.........i'm in March 30th lol

Msp is good,  almost too quiet lol  What happens is you do all your appts etc., and they bill you for the nutritionist and psych appts after all is said and done.....so watch your mailbox after.....

This is very cool.........I will be in VM until Friday, Apr. 2nd if all goes as planned.

Did you make sure to get a Dr. to do your anaesthesia so you won't be billed, they use nurses for it in the States and it isn't covered by MSP.

Are you having RNY?

Do you know Lisa I think her name is, she attends the New West support meetings? Your situation sounds familar.......we met last nite....

Hey, I'll watch for you!

How do you make sure to get a Dr. to do your anaesthesia?  Do you just ask for that at the hospital?  I have no idea what I'm doing!

Yes, I'm having RNY, but open, which is freaking me out!

yes, Lisa and I are friends, she doesn't know about my date yet though...I went to a couple meetings but it was very hard for me after I was denied several times, so I stopped.

Well you should start coming again, great bunch of ladies and tons of support.

You tell your surgeon, or remind them.........to make sure........

Do you have his email?

I have one for my surgeon's assistant.

I have one for the surgery scheduler who booked my surgery and tests, so I'll email her and ask.  Thank you for that because I had absoutely no idea about that.

It's kind of a far drive for me to New West (I live in Harrison, so it's about an hour and a half or so...)  so I'm thinking of going to one that is more local, but yes!  They are definately a great bunch (at least the ladies that I've met were awesome)

I had my surgery done open, recovery is longer than lap, but for the most part I did okay. Make sure you take a pillow with you for the bumps on the ride home, will definitely help.

Thanks for the advice!  I'm terrified about having it done open...I don't know why, maybe it just seems more surgery like that way?

I was to be done lap but had it open. You may find you will have to sleep in a recliner for the first while, because lying flat was quite tender but it was dooable.

I didnt even feel the staples when they took them out.

Just takes longer to heal, any questions you may have you can private email me Im more than glad to answer.

I had my surgery Feb 3. 2009, lost 125 lbs so far,
I would do it again in a heartbeat.
