extended health care

Hi All I am new here. I'm just wondering if anyone has had the Lap-Band paid by extended health care. Patti

Dear Patti, None of the provinces pay for the lap band procedure at this present time. Alberta announced a few months ago that they would fund 100 of the lap band surgeries on a trial basis. Not good news I'm afraid, sorry, you would have to self pay. Sim

Thanks Sim I understand that MSP will not pay for the surgery, but will Extended Health Care, like Blue Cross etc., pay. My husband has Extended Health Care through work. Patti

That's a very good question. I am guessing that they probably will not but give them a call and find out. Would you mind posting what their answer is when you find out? I am also thinking it probably depends on the entended helath care plan. My husband has Blue Cross and they said no. I think they base things a lot on what our medical services plan does or considers so I would be surprised but thrilled if any plans did cover it. Good luck Sim
