Hi. I need any and all info I can get for any of the places in any other countries that do WLS that canadians go to... from costs to quality of care. I am needing a revision from Lapband. Thanks.

If you don't mind me asking, what's a revision and why is it done. I'm interested in lap band right now and just looking for info. As for out of country, one of the girls on here went to Dr.Joya in Mexico. His cost is $12,500 US and that includes airfare/hotel. After hearing about him from her, I have done my own research on him and he seems to be a good choice. There is also another doctor who has a great reputation and is a little more experienced. Dr.Rumbaut in Monterrey, Mexico. I think his cost is around $18,000 CDN after everything.

Hi Bobby, I sent you a personal email a few weeks ago, I guess you didn't receive it? I wanted to see how you are doing. Are you going down to Mexico? I don't want to discourage you from the lapband procedure but I think you should really seriously think about if it is the best procedure for you. As you know Dr. Meneghetti does not even do them. Many surgeons do not recommend them and VCHA will not pay for the surgery vs an RNY for example. There has been a lot of mixed reviews about the procedure some good and some not so good. Research the different types of WLS beforehand and ask questions. You should pick the WLS that is best for you, based on what makes you gain weight, is it portion control or certain types of foods, like sweets, etc. If you want to chat email me personally and I can give you my home number. Do you ever go to the support meetings? I am going to the one in North Vancouver this Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 pm in North Van. We can go together if you like. If not maybe another time. Take care Sim

Hi Christy, I read your profile about your struggles and complications you have had for the past few years. I'm sorry to hear about your problems. I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about lapbanding, so I guess you are another example of what can go wrong. I think you should go on victoriabariatricssurgery.com ( Dr. Amson's website) and post there. This support forum is very quiet and not very busy. You will have a much better chance of getting some responses on Dr. Amson's message board as there are about 600 people who are pre-op or post-op there. I would suggest Dr. Amson would be someone who could help you but he is so busy these days but give their office a call. I am not sure who else to recommend but you should go back to your surgeon and ask him for help too. Take care and good luck Sim from Vancouver

A revision is a change from one surgery to another. In my case the Lapband is making me extremely ill and is rdestroying my life. My surgeon did a perfect surgery, my body just can't take having the band. If I don't have the lapband out in the near future and the gastric bypass done I will most likely die. I It is just a simple fact of life. I have gained back pretty much all the weight I lost 6 months post surgery, when things were going right, after that things just kept getting worse and worse. I haven't eat a properly balance meal since I had surgery. I have not been able to eat any vegetables and very little fruit and hardly any meat since 2004 and have been on Ensure/Glucerna and babyfood rice cereals and some pureed fruits for 1 to 2 years. I try meat once in a while and get very sick. I do drink fresh juiced vegetable juice when I am able to, but get severe edema from it, so can't consume to much. I have a moderate latex allergy and people with latex allergies may have problems with the silicone band and might need to have it removed, this is a possible theory as to why I am so sick, but it is listed in some lapband material in fine print as well... I just didn't see it prior to my surgery. I have been waiting 9 months for a consult with an RNY surgeon, and may have to wait up to 2 or more years for surgery... which means I have to find a way to get the sugery before that, because my body is breaking down now... so I have to look at all the possibilites, and there is very little money to work with for self pay anymore.
