I will talk to the community center tomorrow.. and see what it takes to rent it out. i'll let you know.. As for me.. I am just looking to attend meetings and get to know others who have had the surgeries. I will get back with you tomorrow afternoon.

does renting out the community center involve money? or is it a perk of living there?
We thought we would have some of the vets start the round of meetings and have one person per surgery type do a meeting a month..week, however often we meet to go over any subject that is important to them. I believe we would have to assign 3 people per surgical type like RNY, Sleeve, Band....(not all subjects would apply to all types of surgery) for each meeting in case someone couldn't make it. Research and where the research came from (interviewing a nut by phone, on line at a bariatric site... you get the idea.) That's unless we can find someone in the medical field to be the leader. I personally will do whatever it takes to get these going. If someone else has the drive to keep it going, I'd gladly step back and just attend meetings.

There is a large group of us here trying to find a place to meet. I am holding out hope for the Mutual of Omaha bank in the old Wal Mart shopping center to get their meeing room up and running.
Everyone else would rather charge us.
They used to meet at one of the local Church's group rooms but the church sold the building that was in. Then they met at restaraunts in the area after that, but that proved a disaster for some of the members.
With all of us newer WLS people, as well as the previous groups, it would be a hefty size group.
Please let me know if you are aware of any public meeting areas available.
Thank you

Yeah....I'm rethinking my plans actually. It seems like anything (for me anyway) that has a number to it fails......5 day pouch test.....3 day protein fast......10 day carb buster.....etc.
I think I'm going with the Atkins for life plan........I need the high protein and I need to move the scale slowly instead of a rapid 10 only to regain it! ..... So, I've revised my goal to be ...down a size by Thanksgiving;) I can do that!

I have done this awhile back and did it to break the carb habit and break a stall. It did nothing for me. I chalked it up to another fad diet.
I am more into carbs now than I ever have been.
I am wondering though if I should give it another try. Maybe it will work a second time for me?

Thanks Joyce..
I'm starting tomorrow. Figure best to do it when I have my most trying times.

MikeI've done it before Mike! It's a great "back to basics" plan and the protein seems to boost the energy too!
I'd love to do it with you! I'm leaving tomorrow though for a 3 to 4 weeks trip so will plan on starting mine officially when I get back. I have some middle pudge that I want GONE!!!! And....it's just nice to focus on healthy and cut out the nasty carbs and awful grazing!!!!
Good luck! I'll bet you totally rock it!!! Let us know what you think, K?!!!

Topic: RE: My first support group!
Ahhhhh! Big Hugggzzz to you! pcp visits can be humiliating at best! Hang in there.....you're just a few weeks away from finishing up your journey!!!! Good stuff ahead:)
Sorry I missed the support group! I was out shopping with my 4 year old and 2 year old grand daughters and totally spaced it! Darn it! I've missed most of the groups since my May revision and really really NEED to get back. .... Hopefully I'll see you next month!!!1

I'm actually getting the chance to finally go to my first support group. And I think I really need it. I've been in the process since January, got approved for surgery, then insurance company changed so 3 more months and hopefully it'll work out this time! I'm ready. I went into my pcp for my annual exam, and apart from the scale which screamed at me that even though I have been trying to lose weight since Jan, I have failed miserably. But then the part where I had to get naked and I see my reflection in the glass...I'm just disgusted with myself. I can't believe I let myself get this way. I suddenly started crying and found myself apologizing to the dr for having the awful task of having to look at my body. I shouldn't have to live this way. Sorry I missed the support group!
