We will be having a diabetes walk Saturday October 1st 2005 on the EAST Valley On the Trail for a cure is the theme and check in is at 8 am and walk at 9 am. It is in Mesa at Usery Mountain Recreation center with a western theme and lots of Family fun entertainment. On the West side of town it will also be Saturday October 1st with check in at 4:30 pm and the walk begining at 5:30. This will be a twilight walk. On Sunday October 2 nd We will have the CENTRAL Phoenix walk with check in at 8 am at the Arizona Center and that theme is Landmark for a Cure. Refreshments and goody bags will be provided to all participants. I am on the committee for the East Valley to get this set up. You can REGISTER ON-LINE at www.diabetes.org. Just go to the section Walk. So many of us have this awful disease, since we are obese. Some people suffer with it and they are not obese Type 1 vs Type 2. Diabetes is becoming an epidemic. Please email me if you have any questions, just put WALK in the subject area. This is a great way to help support a very bad disease that touches everyones life. This will be a great way to get out and get our exercise for a good cause. Please pass this information on to your friends and relatives. Please email me or post a response if you have any questions. Your help and support is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much Moira

Thanks for posting this, Moira!!! I plan on participating in the Glendale/West Valley walk on 10/1 at Midwestern University. http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=2907 I hope some other west valley folks will join me. We can grab a bite to eat afterwards or something like that. I don't have diabetes, but know I was a HIGH risk for it pre-op!! A co-worker at my previous job pre-op weighed probably 500 lbs or so and had diabetes II and did not change his eating habits. Last year he had to have half of his leg amputated. He is confined to a wheelchair now because he is too big for an artificial leg. I also heard recently that he might be having his right ankle/foot amputated on soon too. Diabetes is VERY serious. Although I don't have it, I want to help raise funds for the ADA - they do WONDERS in raising money and awareness and research in diabetes (1 and 2). So I hope others will join in as well. It's for a great cause!!! Thanks again for posting this, Moira!!! Diabetes is DEFINITELY an epidemic. It's so sad! And people don't have to be fat to get it (type I). Trisha -95 lbs

REGISTRATION COST FOR DIABETES WALK - FREEEEEEEE!!!!! No cost to register for the walk!! They encourage you to raise funds though for the walk, which you can ask friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, etc. Plus you can contribute a donation towards ADA. So that's cool that there is NO registration fee!! YAY!!! Trisha -95 lbs
