i am a new post op patient so i havent had this problem, YET!  hope i never do but... i was told that we will always have our new pouch as a tool and we can still use it even after weight gain.  i would say go back to eating smaller amounts, lots of protein, follow the rules of at least 1 month out from surgery and excersise.  with your new pouch your weight loss will be easier and faster than before WLS anytime you use it correctly.  Good luck to you!  Glad your are feeling better  Huggs, Dawn

Hi, I am newly post op also, but I heard this guy on the Over 50 Forum was starting gain weight, and he went back to eating like a new post-op and got a handle on it again.  He's doing well.  Good luck.

I am another newbie but I have read many posts about starting over so it must work. Try posting about it on the main forum. Great place to get lots of feedback. Gena

Yes, start over just like post op go through the stages again, liquid, pureed, etc.  I've been to a site called www.livinglifeafterweightloss.com.  They have a 5 day pouch test at www.5daypouchtest.com.  It's also good information.  I got this info from an Oprah show.  I've been to the Chandler Support Group as well and they had a speaker, very knowledgeble - can't remember her name - she works for Dr. Simpson, who spoke about getting to know  our weight index which are the number of calories we need daily to maintain our weight after the malabsorption is gone.  I would write Joyce, she knows this woman real well and can give you her name.  This woman is several years post op and I believe regained a few pounds, lost them and looks great now.  She is a tiny woman and you would never know she had WLS.  I did not know the malabsorption  disappears after 18 months.  The dr or the classes did not tell me that or I would have had the lapband.  But, one thing going for us is our pouches are small therefore fewer calories.  If we do not eat more than it can hold and eat protein first, vegetables second and carbs last I hear the weight will come right off.  Oh and chew, chew, chew..... Try the sites...the pouch is a tool to lose weight and keep it off.  If these links don't work google them.   If this is not comfortable for you I would go see the dr that did your WLS.   Regards, Candy

Candy...our malabsorption disappears after 18 months?  Where did you learn this? And yes obviously I was not told either tho did know that at that point we had to work harder to maintain our weight loss. So this means that in about 18 months to 2 years we are virtually back the way we were prior to surgery?  Hmmm, I would have liked to have heard this woman myself.  Add this big question to the list for Dr Juarez next Thursday! Hi Gena, I learned about the malabsorption healing itself from Darcy who spoke at the Chandler Support Group. I was facinated with her presentation.   Darcie Edelkraut is the person very knowlegeble about malabsorption and maintaing weight after it heals itself. She is working on a nutrition degree and has her nursing degree.  She says the body is smart and repairs itself.    Contact her and she will tell you more.  Shes's on this site.  She's big on portion control by measuring and counting everything that goes in our mouths and knowing your calorie intake to maintain and adjust the calories to lose weight.  This is after the malabsorption heals.  I tend to think it is true, why do some post  WLS gain weight?  Ask Dr. J when you see him about the malabsorption and let me know what he says.  Candy
