So here's a question for those of you who have already had the surgery.  Do you wear a medical ID bracelet?  I read somewhere that it is advised to wear one so that if you're in an accident they don't intubtae w/o a scope and so they don't give you NSAIDs.  So, do you wear one and is it helpful? Rebecca, I am NOT a jewley kind of person and so I asked a couple of surgeon's what their thought was.....they said that any lifesaving technique that would be done wouldnt' be messing with our "areas" so to speak.  I've been to the E.R. about 4 times since my WLS 5 years ago and every time....they ask about my scar down the middle of my tummy.  I guess it alerts  them as much as a bracelet would?  But then, I always have my hubby or a couple of my kids hanging with me that makes sure they all know. If you like jewley then go for it!  I know that some people feel better having one on them ....so if it gives you a bit of comfort and it's cute.......I'd vote "yes, you need one"!! Has anyone else asked their doc about it?  ......   Opinions?  Links to order?  Anyone buy one?

I did decide to buy a braclet that has my bypass listed and also that I have 0 Neg. blood. Walgreens has order forms and they are around $10.00 . I also use mine to measure how small my wrist is  getting. Vanity at its best;)

Thanks everybody for your responses! I was thinking about getting one because first I like pretty jewelry and I found some nice ones at Creative Medical ID.  I also am a crafty person so I figured I would buy the first bracelet with the tag and then start making my own interchangeable bands for lots of variety.  Then its fun and functional.  Do those of you who wear one, just state gastric bypass or do you also have "no NG tube" on it and/or the dr.'s phone #?  I have read all kinds of suggestions on what to put on one, and blood type is a brilliant idea! then they don't have to waste time typing your blood in an emergency, although fortunately I am O+ so I can have anybody's blood. How bout hollering when you've got some cute ones all made up and we'll invite you to an "event" to sell or share them???  It sounds like a fun plan that many of us would benefit from!

Hi Rebecca ,

Dr. Alvarez gives you one when you are leaving so I'm thinking he must think it is important. I'm going to have one made. It will be a conversation piece.
