Hi All, Anyone develop hypoglycemia after 2 years out? My stoma is stretched and I know it is part of the problem. My Surgeon's office now has me testing for hypoglycemia. I know that this has been happening for a while as when I eat a snack or something I feel better. I also have been diagnosed with a pituitary tumor and was wondering if anyone has had weight gain with this as well? Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. Deanne

Deanne, Reacticve Hypoglycemia is becoming relatively common for those who are over 18 months post-op (Rny). It is certainlty something to be mindful of anyway and get checked out. All of us can keep our blood levels leveled out if we remember to group a protein with our complex carbs. i.e. tsp of peanut butter with our apple slices, a bite of cottage cheese with our tomato slices, grilled chicken with our veggies, etc. Here are some links for more info..... If you are having reactive hypoglycemia here are some links: http://www.medpagetoday.com/Gastroenterology/PancreaticDiseases/tb1/1399 http://www.opinions3.com/reactive_hypoglycemia.htm http://www.hypoglycemia-treatment-info.com/ http://www.fred.net/slowup/hypo.html http://www.sover.net/~devstar/hypogly.pdf I don't know anything about the pituitary tumor but I wish you the best in getting some good information from your doc and tackling both issues! Keep us posted! Huggggzzz, Joyce

Joyce. Does that mean if i was hypoglycemic before the surgery it is probably going to come back? I was enjoying the fact that it was gone Is there a reason that it comes back?

Not sure if one has to do with the other. I honestly have not studied the science behind it but know that it is discussed a lot on the graduate forum. I had problems when I would have a piece of fruit or some simple carbs and then have a delayed "dump" with a very low blood sugar reading about 2 or 3 hours later. I've just found that if I stick with "3 bites protein to 1 bite carb" then I have great blood sugar levels. Joyce

Joyce, Thanks for your information, I will check it out further tomorrow evening. It seems with the blood testing that I have done all day today that I definately have hypoglycemia. My blood sugars are dropping below 70. I just tested it a few minutes ago before taking my bedtime meds and it was like 56, so I ate some cheese and some yogurt. I know we are not to snack, but obviously this is a problem. All I have wanted to do today is sleep, "chronic fatigue" or could be problems with the pituitary tumor. I see an endocrinologist on Wednesday. Randy at Dr. Blackstone's office and I am trying to see what's going on. I know Dr. Backstone hasn't submitted for my lap band revision surgery yet and Randy thougt she wouldn't want to do the surgery until after I get more information on the pituitary problem and get it controlled. Thanks for all of your support. Deanne

I can relate to this a lot! I am only a year out and have developed very bad hypoglycemia. My blood sugars have gotten down to the 30s and that's not a good feeling! I'm working with doctors now to try to figure out how to manage it better, so if I get any good hints I'll pass them on. Take Care!!! Duane
