Question for you...how low can your BMI be to have lap-band surgery?

Hi Carole, Most insurance companies want 40 BMI or greater, unless you have some other underlying conditions caused by obesity - such as - sleep apnea, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol etc. They can submit to your insurance if a person is just under the 40 BMI, but then its up to the insurance underwriter to make the call. My BMI is 36.4 with GERD and low back pain and I got approved from both UHC and BCBS.
