I think allo the doctor's do things differently. When we got to our first appointment, we didn't actually meet with the doctor. We saw the nutrionist, the ins. people, and the nurse practioner who did a mini physical and told us what all tests we would need to be ready for surgery. It was about a 4 hour appointment. They collected money but it was only 475 for each of us. We have Dr. Blackstone. I think her process may be a little slower than your doctor, she is just now adding some other people to her staff. The actual lab work and all related tests, cardiac, pulmonary, etc. were covered by insurance. We had our whole packet ready for them when we went to the seminar to help speed things up. We had called our insurance co. so we would know if we would be approved. We had our letter of medical necessity in our initial packet for the seminar. Things moved along rather quickly last fall. Only thing that slowed my end down was some additional cardiac and pulomonary testing that had to be done before I could be cleared. I can't stress enough the importance of getting those appointments right away when they tell you what you need to complete. What we found was one test lead to another before that particular phase could clear you. THis being an elective surgery seems to have a whole different criteria before these specialists will say it is safe for you to have his procedure. You will be turned inside out, leterally! Pap, Mamogram, Cardiac, Physc. Eval, lots of lab, chest xray, and I've probably forgotten a few. Just take it one step at a time, but don't put anything off or you'll find your surgery date moved out. Good Luck, take care.

Hi Catlina, Do you have insurnce, or are you a selfpay? I have UHC, ad I got to pick my own psch, so I only had to pay a $25.00 copay. And all the labs were covered by insurace as well. They might recommend seeing thier psych, but you don't have to, and she didn't take my insurance any way. Dr. Fang is great, I think you will be very pleased with him! Good luck, and if you have an other questions feel free to e-mail me! Sarah

Some of my psych was covered by Humana. As for the lab work that was covered. MY doctor is Dr.Juarez same office (whom I love). Dr.Fang or Juarez will be there for the seminar. For your first appointment its a consultation with your doctor. Believe Carol when she says there will be testing and clearances so just try to do one thing at a time.
