Topic: Need help one more time!
Hello everyone! I've been in and out of here for two years but I am ready to start getting more involved because I realize I really need help! Some of you know I lost my husband a little over a year ago. I feel like I'm just now really coming out of the shock...I had my lapband (realize) surgery in July 2008. I've only lost about 50 or 55 pounds. I lost 15 of those the week after Billy died. I haven't even tried to eat right the past year. I just haven't cared about myself. I need to start caring though because I have two wonderful daughters and 5 precious grandkids that I love dearly and I know love me. If anyone here has a lapband, please tell me what you think I'm doing wrong. In the morning I have some restriction and eat very little...but in the afternoon and evening, I can eat anything with no problem! Does that sound like I need to go get a fill? I've been gone so long I'm going to have to reeducate myself. I also have a sweet tooth and eat too much ice cream. I know that's one habit that will have to end, but I need some food suggestions that are quick and easy so I'm not so tempted by sweets. I don't cook anymore...partly due to having fibromyalgia and being in pain all the time...partly because it's just me here. I also have a fear of losing the weight for some reason...and I doubt if I can have surgery if I did lose the weight to get rid of all the extra skin hanging around. I know exercise would help but I can't do much. I already feel like a bowl of jello so what would it be like if I lost all the weight! I know I've been eating and not caring because my heart was so broken when I lost my husband but I feel like I'm starting to heal emotionally and I need to start healing physically now too. Thanks for any help!

Sorry about your complication but it seems like otherwise you are doing well. You attitude sounds great, which it has to be. I am at week 6 and adding meats today (real meat besides tuna!). It is a long haul to this point as far as limited foods and even more limited intake. I got in a rut and stuck with it just to get to this point. Same foods over and over because it was predictable and a no brainer. It's only once that you have to go through with this post-op part, so just find some things you like and hang in there. I have to have at least one shake a day or I can not make my protein goal. I like iced ff, decaf lattes with some splenda. That has helped with calcium intake as well as protein. Just a thought if you like those. Also, stay hydrated. The worst I have felt yet was a week after surgery when I thought I could only sip an ounce an hour and got dehydrated. Now, I just drink several mouthfuls and I am okay. No tightness, etc... Especially watch that while it is so hot out. Hope you can make it to some support group meetings. They are really helpful and encouraging after surgery. Later!

Over a week post-op now from RNY. Gotta say that I'm feeling pretty good, better than I expected I think at this point. I did have a little minor complication as it seems as though I was having a little bleeding/oozing from what Dr. Baker believes from a staple site somewhere. Had to get checked out in the ER on Monday where a bleeding scan showed I wasn't bleeding enough to show up and my blood counts were lower from surgery but not dangerously low. The meds he started me on has seemed to have stopped the bleeding since then. I get my blood counts rechecked tommorrow to see where we're at but no more signs of bleeding in last two days so I think it may have stopped.
I am now on the soft diet. Looking for creative suggestions if anyone has them. I've been eating some fruit, ff cottage cheese, greek yogurt with some splenda, tried some thicker refried beans/ff cheese blended with a bit of chicken broth and a touch of salsa. In between meals, I've been having a couple of sf carnation instant breakfasts a day for extra protien and nutrition. So surprised how I'm not hungry though on so little food....it's amazing!! Only thing I'm really missing is some pizza.....darn TV commercials!! I really hope there is a way once I am through the phases there is a way to make a healthy baraitric friendly pizza. Guess its time to get some new recipies!! Maybe we should start a new thread??
Even with my little minor bump in the road to recovery I've had. Gotta say that I so love Dr. Baker and how attentive he is. Also so glad already to have done the surgery. I've lost 22 pounds since starting the shake regiman (a little over about 3 weeks)!!!
Anyway, trying to get these boards a little more active and moving. Hope everyone else is well.!

I hope you heard back from your doctor's office. I know with my surgeon the first 2 weeks we were on protein shake 2 oz every hour, then water or crystal lite every 15 min inbetween.
If pills are not going down well your surgeon should be able to order you a liquid pain medicine instead.

Topic: RE: Let's get this board moving!!! Girlfriend's box of questions
I must say that my least favorite fasion trend of all times past present and future is going to town in your pajamas and then, getting out of the car that way!!! Thats why we have bed clothes and other clothes so that we know what to wear when!!! Ugh, and they wear those printed fleece fuzzy pants to town and to top it off, they wear their big floppy animal head houseshoes with them!!!
Now I will say I own fleece fuzzy pants with odd designs and Ive owned several pair of the oversized animal head house shoes, but I didnt wear them to town!!!
From the past, I never wore them, but Id have to say Parachute pants!!!!
Hugs,
Rhonda D.

Topic: First Day home and maybe blocked??
Wanted to let everybody know that I'm home after my RNY and doing ok. Definatley less sore today. Just trying to figure out how to do this eating full liquid thing. Not sure if that follows the pattern I followed yesterday in the hospital with the clears or not as far as 60cc per meal, wait an hour, then 30cc every 20 minutes. Or does it follow the 1-2 T per meal plan?? Just a little confused. Called Dr. Baker's office to ask a few questions but I know it's their busy Thursday so I haven't heard anything back yet.
Also, I'm afraid I may be blocked....a little. Seemed like my Percocet may not be going down all the way. It definately feels weird like there is something stuck. Fluids seems to be going down ok though. I can't remember what I can do to help get me unblocked. I have tried warm liquids and that hasn't worked. I remember something about Lemon juice but can't remember exactly how to do that, what the ratio is. Anybody have any other ideas?
Thanks!
