Dr. Baker isn't listed on dsfacts.com or duodenalswitch.com but his website says he does these procedures:
1. Roux En Y Gastric Bypass
2. Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding
3. Duodenal Switch/Biliopancreatic Diversion
4. Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy
He is my surgeon of preference and I'm looking for info. Also I'm strongly leaning toward the DS rather than the RnY for all the reasons the DSers list. I'm 49 with a BMI of 63 and have had all the yoyo-ing I can enjoy for this and three other lifetimes. I mean, if I go so far as to have my entrails rearranged to lose weight, I don't want it back, yanno? Thanks!Charlee
Topic: Support Group dilemma
I'm registered for Dr. Baker's seminar 7/21 3:30-5. His office said it was fine for me to attend a support group meeting here in Jonesboro to save one trip to Little Rock. And when is the next Jonesboro meeting??? 7/21 at 6:00pm. Naturally, I got this information on Friday, 7/10 - the day AFTER the most recent LR meeting. So since I can't fly that fast - the next LR meeting is in August - the 13th, right? Where? I hate to be that late getting home, but I'm SO ready to get this show on the road. I suppose I could wait one more week and go to the Jonesboro meeting but dang. Any other meetings that y'all know about anytime sooner than mid-August? Thanks!!

Well now you know what you need, are you diabetic? How high is it? Are you going to see your doctor to see how to lower it? Did Christy tell you anything else? The journey is tough, but the outcome is well worth the reward. It’s your life and you want to be healthy, don’t give up and do whatever you can to make it happen! Let me know how it all goes.

Congrats on the horse show! Glad you're having a fun summer. Are you still working? Haven't heard you mention it lately.

Topic: RE: How did the meeting go?
hey there!
Hope you had a great vacation. The meeting was okay. I think people were a little nervous about the exchange, but I think we'll try it again. Or, at least let people bring stuff and put it out, if someone wants it, fine.
See you next month

I use and recommend this site a lot. The recipes are terrific and include all the nutritional info.

Hey Sybul,
Congratulations on a wonderful year!
Ok...here's my take....my opinion only. My nutritionist told me when I reached goal to keep my protein around 70 grams a day. Personally, I don't think that's enough when you factor in the malabsorption we experience. So, I keep mine around 90-100, and yes, still drink a protein drink at least three days a week, sometimes more.
How many calories a day are you getting in?
Doctors differ of their opinions of how much our pouch should hold at the one year mark. Dr Baker says 1/2 c food at a meal. Gibbs(my doc) says 1 cup, that will increase to as much as 1 1/2 per meal at 18 months. When I had my upper GI last week, the radiologist said my pouch was the smallest he'd ever seen, which surprised me because I can eat about a cup of food, maybe more depending on the food density.
Keep up the good work. Let me know about your calorie intake and we'll see about getting that last 30 off.
Hugs
