The weather is supposed to be really great the next few days, so get out there and have a good run. Oh, and while you're out, take that chocolate and toss it onto the side of the road for the squirrels and such. Remember who you're talking to here. Me, the "dark chocolate has antioxidant" gal who hasn't had any in three weeks!!! You can totally do this. Don't spend the $$ on candy, or other things that aren't part of your plan. Call it part of your austerity program.
Let's start figuring out a Buck's gathering, huh?
Susan
Glad to see you, come around more often, okay???
Susan
Anyway, this week I have taken some positive steps. I got in touch with a lady who sells Stanley Home Products/Fuller Brush stuff, and she's getting me hooked up as a consultant. Initial outlay is very minimal, so that's good. I've revamped my bills spreadsheet and I'm exploring hardship programs with the CC people. I am making plans to sell some of the stuff in our garage on Craigslist and maybe have a garage sale, too. I'm also putting the pressure on hubby to maybe pick up a part-time gig at a friend's gaming store, assuming he's got openings. Sam loves that stuff, so it would barely be work for him.
So there you have it. I plan to run 8 miles this weekend, though I'd like to push for 10. I don't want to overtrain with the knee so I'm telling everyone here that I will ONLY run 8 miles!!!!! :-) We're all eating better since eating out is not an option. I spoke with Baker about my feelings of hunger at my 1-year appointment, and he cleared me to eat all the fresh fruits and veggies I want. I've been taking advantage of that and refocusing my eating.
Good lord, I'm rambly today. Haven't even had my pill yet!
Glad you all got them straightened out. ;-D
You are not a failure. You are a HUMAN. And the good thing about this whole thing is that you know how to get back to where you want to be. It *is* hard, and bless you for being the veteran of our group.
Baby steps, girl... stop drinking after meals today. Start moving a little more; fresh air is great for your mood. Focus on the protein, and get whatever junk you can out of the house. Set a timer and make yourself eat on a schedule.
I hear you on the Coke, but I *finally* got off it and moved to coffee... of course, by the time I'm done with it, it barely resembles coffee anymore, ha ha (I add fat-free half/half, sugar free smuckers caramel, a little regular chocolate syrup, and some splenda). Baker was not thrilled, but I'm not completely giving up caffeine!
I am super-duper stressed right now as we are flat broke. I am a planner and a life of unpredictable income does not serve me well. I've started having panic attacks and I've found myself stress eating, too. (even dipping into the chocolate... did you know that there's protein in reese's pb cups? LOL) This week I have had to FORCE myself to run or exercise. I know in my mind it's a choice between doing it or eating and stressing at home. The stress does still get to me, but I'm not crawling out of my skin quite as badly if I exercise.
I went to the doc last week about the attacks and they gave me some Klonopin -- the doc said he'd been seeing a lot of people with unemployment issues and it was a tough time for everyone. He was very sympathetic and I felt better knowing that it wasn't just that I was weak and couldn't suck it up... we are such perfectionists, aren't we? :-(
So --starting today!! don't vow to be perfect, just vow to be better. Think about how you're doing something positive by taking care of yourself, even if you're not able to control other issues right now.
Please don't feel ashamed. I know it could just as easily be me in your shoes, so there's absolutely NO judgment from me... hugs to you.
I recall I used to kind of measure meat against the size of my thumb -- I read a book once called The Portion Control Diet which was very interesting, and I believe it said that the top part of your thumb is equivalent to 1/2 tbsp?? Anyway, I'd take a piece of meat the size of my whole thumb and that was my meat for the meal. I'd have a small spoon of whatever carb, and then a couple green beans or something. Now (1 year post-op) I've graduated to meat portions closer to 1/2 the size of my palm. I figure it's about 2-3 oz. I'm always worried about the protein portion of the meal over anything else. :)
They sell those steam-in-bag things in fairly small sizes; they even have brown rice (it's pretty good). One of those would last you several meals and be pretty flexible. Get some chicken and a couple small freezer bags of veggies and you're set for a while. Speaking of chicken, a bag of those pre-cooked Tyson breast strips would be very easy for you, too, and one bag can stretch a loooooong way for you.
Some possibilities are:
plain rice with a little chicken and some green beans
an ultra-small portion of chicken fried rice with egg beaters, green peas and a little soy sauce
a mini-casserole with some chicken, broccoli, cream soup, and a little low-fat cheddar cheese (bake in a muffin tin)
a Mexican meal: chicken & rice with some taco seasoning and some pinto beans
Lately I've been doing the frozen breast strips on some of the preshredded lettuce with some black olives, diced tomato, mexican cheese, and some light Caesar vinaigrette. You could make as little as you want and most of the ingredients, except the lettuce, can keep for a while.
I hope this helps! Congratulations on your apartment!!!!! :)
Let me know if you need any more ideas; I don't work with beef a lot, it doesn't sit well, which is why all the chicken. A nice, tender cut of pork will work well as will turkey, and those can be easily substituted into any of the above.
OOH, I just remembered one of my recent breakfast faves: A tbsp or 2 of egg beaters scrambled up with a sprinkling of cheese and a bit of chopped turkey bacon (the pre-cooked kind you'd sprinkle on your salad, sold in little resealable bags -- Kroger has their own brand). I put this on 1/2 a Flat-Out wrap with a little Miracle Whip... mmmmm! The bread for the wrap has 5 g of protein on its own, so it's a great protein option for breakfast. If you can't do bread yet, just do the egg! Fast and easy.
Lot's of great folks to talk with on here.
Just let us know if you have questions/concerns, etc along the way. We have probably had similar questions and will be happy to share what we have learned.
Steve
Looking for someone to talk to mostly...
