eating - head hunger vs. ??
On the DS list, I've noticed that there are only about 10% as many complaints about inappropriate hunger issues as there are on some other procedure lists- and some of *those* are carb cravings, easily dealt with. Many researchers and surgeons believe it's because of the VSG portion of the surgery, which removes much of the stomach tissue that produces the *hunger* hormone ghrelin. What we call 'head hunger' may actually be *stomach* hunger, as a result of too much or inappropriate releases of ghrelin. As a result, after DS or VSG, many are surprised to find that they are simply not very hungry anymore - and others find that getting their protein requirements pretty much satisfy them so they aren't as likely to overeat.
Need-to-know info for those still in the decision phase for their procedure.
