Hi April. I had Dr Baker do open RNY 8/23/2005 at St. Vincent's in Little Rock. He is very well known for his surgical expertise but he is also very well known for his very poor bedside personality. I chose surgical expertise and just "Deal" with his Personal lacks even bordering on egomanic personality. Naturally as all things go this has been my personal opinion and I even worked with a lady who was 2 years post surgery and loved Dr Baker to death. His best suit seems to be open RNY as opposed to Laproscopic surgery. A lot of people seem to recover faster with Laproscopic as I seem to have noticed on the boards here. I am almost 60 years old and healing sometimes can be slower than when you are in your 30's so Lap would have been a better choice but Dr Baker was "in network" for my insurance and to date Aetna has paid 100% so I took this Dr and this route. My Primary Care Physician said, Choose a Dr that does the procedure you need a whole lot so he has a lot of experience doing the surgery and choose a Surgeon who does specifically what you need done. Good luck on your choice of surgeons.

I think he is one of the bet wls doctors in the country. In this, more than most surgeries, the risk is driven by the doctor's experience and approach. Dr. Baker has a great track record, and it is not because he has refused "high risk" patients. He is tough, especially on the first visit/ seminar, but he wants to make sure that you are serious about your part of making this a success. I had my surgery 3/2004 and have been thankful every day for the new life and health that I have. I highly recommend Dr. Baker. Joy
