My DH works at the Fort Smith office and he was told that insurance would not cover it because Baldor has a written exclusion policy. You can TRY, submit your paperwork, etc. but you will get turned down.
I paid for my surgery out-of-pocket and went to Little Rock, as I felt more comfortable.
Good luck!
Renee:
Based on 30 years in the health insurance industry and handling employee benefits for a large number of companies, it sounds like maybe Baldor is self insured and if they are then they can write in their own exclusions. But, it looks like a lot of insurance companies are starting to exclude this surgery and it really is strange to me because of all the benefits that you get out of WLS.
Don't give up, I believe that Dr. Gibbs in LR has a set amount for self pay and so does Baptist.
I was lucky and my insurance carrier paid for the surgery, but I would have had it anyway. I only wish that I had done it years ago. I am 10 months post op and down 140 pounds.
Good luck and if you have any questions or if I can help in any way just e mail me.

Hey!
Yes, there is a huge discount. My total cost for surgery was just a little over $15,000 I put most of it on my credit card. St. Vincents in Little Rock was $9400 Dr. Ozment was $4,000 and my Anestheisia was about $1500
The bills from the hospital alone were about $40,000 but with the discount I only had to pay the $9400.

Hi Christy!
My total for everything, hospital, surgeon, anesthesia, nutritionist, etc was less than $16,000 out of pocket. I was self pay.
The $40,000 that I mentioned was a bill I did get from the hospital. It was an itemized statement. Had I went thru insurance, this is the amounth that my insurance would have been billed. I did not have to pay the 40k.
I am not sure about the lap band and costs. I had the distall gastric bypass.
