Desperate for Surgery Financing Or Insurance to cover Surgery

Greetings, I don't want to sound dramatic or anything but I've been trying to get this surgery done for almost 7yrs now and the waiting is driving me freaking crazy!!! Every place I've worked over the past 10yrs didn't have insurance that would cover the surgery. So then I thought I'd just get my own individual insurance coverage....what a joke! As soon as they see my weight it's all over with. They either won't cover me or if they say they will...... I quickly ask if gastric bypass is covered and I'm quickly told no and then shown in their "Exclusions Policies" where it states so in black and white. It's like a freaking nightmare! I don't have the kind of family that has money or other resources to pool together in order to assist me in paying for this surgery. And my ex-husband left me with a credit report that keeps me from getting approved for a loan as well. I'm to the point that I'm writing to any talk show or reality series possible to see if they will cover the cost of surgery as long as I allow them to track my recovery...... Fine. I have no problem with that..... but even THAT isn't going anywhere and I've been trying that avenue for almost 2yrs straight. I just don't know what to do. My parents moved in to a new home (renting) so that they could sell the home they own, build a smaller house for their retirement, and then they were going to spend the rest of the proceeds from the sale of their home to pay for my surgery. BUT.... Oh yes there is a big BUT..... on 04/28/05 the rent house they were living in caught fire when the ho****er tank exploded... the whole place burned down and they've lost everyhing. They are fine and unharmed thank God! However, know once their house sells they are going to need all the proceeds to go into building their new home and getting all new furnishings to replace those lost in the fire. So I'm back to square one. Another door slammed in my face. I just don't know what to do. Can any of you offer any advice on other avenues I can look in to??????? Im so sorry you are going thru this. I am going thru similar things as well. Ive only been trying for a short time, but it has been filled with disappointment. Im not sure what advice I can give, but I can offer support if you ever just want to talk. Are you working now? What about self-pay? I have been told that the costs of this surgery are reduced when you have to pay for it yourself. Im not sure this goes for every surgeon, but Ive heard a few say that. I know that they can set you up on a payment plan to help you with the costs. Im currently on disability bc of my weight issues as well as other problems associated with my weight. I am on Medicare which pays for it, but theres alot of "red" tape to go thru. Would that be an option? Getting approved for disability is hard, but if you have a good doctor that will go to bat for you as well as a lawyer, it is an option to try. I dont know your situation, so it would be up to you if you think you would qualify. Good luck...and like I said, if you ever want to talk...Im just an email away Lisa
