Bad, Bad News
I went to my first appt with the bariatric clinic in Memphis...
doesnt look like i will get the surgery...
my BMI is 70 and they said that they wouldnt do surgery on anyone over 60....so in order to have the surgery, I have to lose 50 pounds....
I dont know about anyone here...but if i could lose 50 pounds on my own, I wouldnt need the surgery..
I feel so defeated...like ive been hit by a truck....
Lisa,
I'm sorry to hear that...However, try to look at it in a positive way. They do not do surgery on anyone over 60 BMI, I would say they are looking out for what is best for the patient. As for losing 50lbs....I'd said to get on the Atkins diet, be faithful, and the weight will drop off. Losing the weight will help to ensure a better recovery.
good Luck

thanks Cathi..
unfortunately ive done Atkins several times and the most ive lost was 20 pounds and i just couldnt stay on it...
i dont know what to do really....
Yes i think they are looking out for me..but i sure wish i had known about this particular criteria about BMI over 60....i wouldnt have even gone to that appt..

I feel for you. Have you considered another surgeon? They all have different requirements. In Little Rock there are several excellent surgeons. I am not sure of their individual requirements but my surgeon, Dr. Kerry Ozment will do surgery on someone with your bmi. Check him out. Much luck!
