I'm new here
Hi Everyone, I'm Rita, I live in Greenbrier AR and am seeing Dr Corbin in Searcy. I like him and his staff. I am at the point where he puts the request in to my insurance company. So no date yet. I made the mistake of looking up the memorials and mortality rates I have found three sets of figures, 1 in 100, 1 in 200, and 1 in 1000 die of complications does anyone know what the true stats are for RNY? Thank you for your posts I am afraid and excited all at once that sounds like that is very common. What I like best is when everyone has said yes they would do it again. Thanks for shareing your info.
The numbers are closer to 1 in 200. Ask your doctor for his stats. Keep in mind that the mortality rate for obesity is high without surgery also, and many of the people who have the surgery are very poor surgery risks, but have no hope of living without it.
It is normal to be nervous. It will help to read the profiles of people who have had the surgery, especially from your doctor. This will help you be realistic. Good luck to you!

Hi Rita,
Welcome to the message board. Just make sure you ask your doctor for his stats. They are the only ones that matter. Ask him about any deaths, or leaks. You can also go to your doctors forum on here and get a list of members. If you have put your doctor's name on your profile, you can just open your profile and click on your surgeon's name and it will take you to his forum where you can get a list of peers and read their profiles. That will give you the best info on your surgeon. I used Dr. Gibbs in Little Rock. I have heard some good things about Dr. Corbin. Good luck on your journey and hang on for the ride of your life. God Bless and keep posting and updating your profile.

Rita,
I read the memorial page two days before my surgery, and I cancelled my surgery. I'm now rescheduled for March 10. Remember, alot of folks who don't make it are ones who have VERY serious health problems. I think the better your health, the better your recovery. As Dr. Wellborn said to me, "Do exactly as I tell you and you will be fine". Sometimes I start thinking about the "what if's", but I tell myself, I have to do this for my family, so I can be more active with them and have a better life.....check out www.spotlighthealth.com and watch the videos online, they should make you feel better.
Good Luck!
